He is famous all over the world for his funny face.
But do you know the name of the man behind this character?
His name is Rowan Atkinson, and his real life is far more incredible than any comedy.
Rowan was born in England, growing up on a large farm in the countryside.
When he was a young boy, he looked strange to other people.
Some kids even called him "The Alien", as if he didn't belong on this planet.
They treated him like a freak. His biggest problem was his voice.
Rowan had a terrible stutter. Whenever he tried to talk, the words would get stuck in his throat.
It was a heavy, terrifying feeling.
He couldn't speak smoothly and people thought he was stupid.
The teachers did not pay much attention to him. His father thought he might be mentally slow.
So, Rowan gradually fell silent and hid from the world.
As he grew into a teenager, Rowan found that because he could not connect with people,he started to connect with things.
Things like machines, radios, pocket watches.
During teenage years, he developed a deep love for science and engineering.
But machines were not his only interest.
While he was at school, he fell in love with watching comedy movies.
He watched them over and over again, studying how people make others laugh.
As he moved into high school, he did not care about sports or being popular.
He cared about physics and maths, studying hard in his own world.
The boy who was called "The Alien", the boy who could not speak a clear sentence, graduated from high school with top grades.
After finishing school, he applied to a university and was accepted.
A few years later, he was accepted into Oxford University to earn his Master's degree.
There, he was not studying comedy, but science. He earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
However, electrical engineering would not be his final path.
During his time at Oxford, Rowen found something far more powerful than machines.
He joined a famous drama club and finally met some good friends.
One day, he decided to try and walked onto the stage.
He discovered that when he played a character, he did not stutter anymore.
In that moment, a miracle happened.
The stutter that had locked his voice for years simply vanished.
Rowen realized that the stage was not just a hobby but his future.
As his confidence grew, he began to perform in larger shows outside of the school.
He didn't need a single word to make people laugh.
The TV show "Mr.Bean" only had 15 episodes, but those 15 episodes were sold to more than 200 countries around the world.
Mr. Bean became one of the most famous cultural icons of Britain, side by side with Shakespeare and Harry Potter.
The boy who couldn't speak English properly had created a character who did not need English at all to conquer the entire world.
Mr. Bean did not use words. He didn't need a single word to make people laugh. He broke the language barrier completely.
The Iranian government even made an exception and allowed this Western program to be broadcast, praising "Mr. Bean" for transcending national boundaries.
He played the role of a fool all his life, but in reality he was a master of electrical engineering from Oxford.
Deep inside, he is still the quiet, shy boy from the farm.

Today, JAXA successfully launched the next‑generation H3 rocket. The previous launch in December failed, so this success felt very important.
With this flight, JAXA has now completed all three planned types of the H3 rocket. The H3 also reduces the total cost of production and launch by about 30–50% compared to the older H2A.
Even with this lower cost, the H3 is still more expensive than SpaceX’s Falcon 9. However, it is cheaper than Europe’s Ariane 6 and the United States’ Vulcan rocket. The H3 now has a 75% success rate, which is considered a good and reliable level. Japan’s control and tracking systems are also known for their high quality.
JAXA is planning a Mars exploration mission later this year. I am excited to follow future space events based on Japanese technology.

I think about some place on the northern countries like Canada or Russia. I'm not used to low temperatures since I am from a tropical country, but even so I'd like to go there. I imagine that it would have tall pine trees with snow spread through its branches and some calm riverbed landscape! It would be awesome to see the local fauna too, such as bears (on the distance, of course!), foxes, birds, etc.

1. My gardenia is finally about to bloom, yeah!
2. I bought a betta fish for my balcony garden a month ago, but it wasn't in the best shape when it arrived. It's fully recovered now, so I made a video of it last night. You can see 小橘子 here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AA3-4zPiJ1E.
(I don't want to burden you guys with correcting my pronunciation every time, but I'd really appreciate any feedback!)
3. I'll have to skip my regular Saturday hike tomorrow because of a Dragon Boat Festival celebration and a musical drama I want to see.

I'm curious: do native English speakers learn phonetic symbols when they start school? I'm Chinese. When I started school, I learned Chinese Pinyin, which was the foundation for learning Chinese. With Pinyin, I knew how to pronounce every Chinese character and which tone it should be pronounced with.
When I started learning English, I also learned phonetic symbols. They help me know how to pronounce a new word, how many syllables it has, and which syllable is stressed. Nowadays, dictionary apps are smart enough to show us how a word is pronounced. Besides, they provide real human pronunciations from major English-speaking countries, and we can practice pronouncing words online and get a score. My pronunciation scores usually range from 85 to 100.
Now here's my question: if native speakers learned the same phonetic symbols as we did, why don't they pronounce words according to those symbols?
I've been trying really hard to improve my listening skills, but I still find listening difficult. I check each word's phonetic symbol very carefully, and it turns out that many native speakers don't pronounce words the way their phonetic symbols suggest.
Here's what I think: the relevant authorities in English-speaking countries should either set phonetic symbols based on how their citizens actually speak, or their citizens should strictly follow the phonetic symbols when pronouncing words. Chinese has many dialects, but Mandarin has fixed pronunciations for each character. So no matter what dialect you speak or where you come from, as long as you speak Mandarin, it's easy for people to understand you.
So I've come to a conclusion: non-native English learners struggle so much with listening, not only because their English level is low, but also, to a large extent, because native speakers don't pronounce words according to their phonetic symbols.
I believe my opinion is correct—at least to some extent.

Nigeria is Africa's most populous country with over 200 million people.
Although primary school education is free and compulsory, the illiteracy rate is about 40 percent.
Nigeria is a polygamous country.
The average Nigerian family has about five children.
No wonder it is the country with the largest population in Africa.
Nigeria is Africa's largest oil producer and exporter.
Oil exports are the main source of income in Nigeria.
Electric cars are not suitable for Nigeria because electricity is much more expensive than petrol.
Nigeria has a shortage of electricity and there are frequent blackouts.
Nigeria is not self-sufficient in food, and a large number of imports are still needed every year.
In Nigeria, apples are the most expensive fruit.
Mobile phone signals in Nigeria are not stable.
Malaria kills about 300,000 people a year.

I came across a woman who has been consistently using Duolingo for over ten years.
She has learned more than six languages.
Yesterday, I added her as a friend on Duolingo.
We talked about the story of the listening practice.
She said she wasn't good at listening.
No matter what language it is, the story is exactly the same.
Even if you can't get into the details, you can still guess it.
She persisted for a long time because Duolingo was like playing a game.
She is not proficient in any language except English.
Spanish and French courses are plentiful, she says, but Latin course is very few.
Actually she's a big fan of duolingo.
If you study at midnight, Duolingo will give you the label of "sleepwalker".
On the journy of language learning, you are constantly motivated.

Now, I'm undergoing orthodontic treatment.
In Japan, treatment covered by public health insurance is cheap.
However, cosmetic treatments such as orthodontics and teeth whitening are not covered, so they are very expensive.
In fact, many dentists don't actively recommend these treatments their patients.
At least until 2020, many Japanese people saw orthodontic treatments as a luxury that only rich people and celebrities could afford.
However, during the pandemic, remote work and study became common, and wearing musk even when they are not sick also became widespread. As a result, people could undergo orthodontic treatment without others noticing, and orthodontics quickly became more popular in Japan.
*Many Japanese people feel that faces with braces look unattractive.
I had my first consultation in April this year.
I still have separators between my teeth.
I'll have my teeth extracted this month and get braces next month.
It'll take a long time to get well-aligned teeth.

Hola. En este momento, estoy escribiendo algunas frases para mi clase de comunicación científica. Aunque tengo mucho tiempo para escribir, prefiero dormir entre las 22:00 y las 00:00, pero últimamente me he dormido más tarde. No es bueno, pero quiero dormir antes de las 00:00 esta noche.
¡Chao!
