"Metromuz nerede?"
Yaklaşık iki hafta önce, bir arkadaşımla sinemaya gidip, "The Bricklayer" adlı bir filmi seyrettik. Tipik bir aksiyon filmiymiş, ama seyretmek istediğimiz sebebimiz vardı. Bu film Yunanistan'da, Selanik şehrinde çekilendi. Ve biz, üç yıl önce Selanik'e tatile gittiğimizde gördüğümüz yerler Amerikan bir filmin merceğinin içerinden nasıl görünürdü merak ediyorduk.
Bir sahnede büyük bir kamyon şehrin manzarasını olan kafeye çarptı. O kafe bana biraz tanıdık geldi.
"Ey, kahve içtiğimiz yer orada!", dedim arkadaşıma.
"Bir dahaki sefer kahve için başka bir yer bulmak zorunda olacağız", yanıtladı bana.
Ekranda hatıraların ve kartpostalların raflarının, masaların ve sandalyelerin paramparça olduğunu gördüm. Selanik'e gittiğimiz zaman o karpostallardan bazılarını aldığımı bile hatırladım. Eğer bir daha şehre ziyaret etsek o kafenin yerinde ne bulurduk merak ettim.
Başka bir sahnede, iki baş kahramanı bir yere gitmek için metroya binmişler. Ama gerçekte Selanik'te metro yok! Daha da garip bir şekilde, Selanik metroyu uzun ve ağrıtan bir hikayesi var. Yaklaşık otuz yıldır metronun işleri başlayıp duruyor, ve Selanikliler metroyu beklerler ve metroyu görmezler. Nasıl onlar filme tepki verdiler merak ediyorum. Belki birisi onlarla dalga geçmiş gibi hissetmişler. Belki de, metronun tamamlanması için umutları yine de artmış, bilmiyorum.
Her neyse, film çok eğlenceliydi.

Qu'est-ce que je apprécie le plus pour une amitié
Quand je fais nouveaux amis, je apprécie le plus des personnes qui sont honnête et digne de confiance. J'aime aussi être amis avec des personnes qui aime parler de plusieurs thèmes. En particulier, j'aime quand je peux parler avec mes amis de les thèmes que j'aime, comme l'informatique et la musique. J'aime sortir beaucoup, donc mes amis aiment aussi sortir.

Jeanne : Je fais pas de miracles. La thérapie est un engagement sérieux, qui commence par la communication. Commençons, donc, avec la raison pour laquelle tu es là.
Allison : C'est une histoire assez brutale. T'es sûre de pouvoir t'en charger ?
Jeanne se redresse et essaie de paraître nonchalante.
Jeanne : Je t'écoute
Allison : Je veux pas t'offenser. T'as l'air plutôt... consérvatrice.
Jeanne : Tu peux te sentir à l'aise ici.
Allison : Ben, écoute. Je suis pas une droguée ou quoi que ce soit d'autre. Je suis une fille intelligente, d'accord ?
Jeanne : Allison, je te juge pas...
Allison : Alors, j'ai été acceptée à Fordham, tu sais. Et j'étudie l'histoire, 'fin, et j'ai rencontré un mec, Alistair, qui vient de Berlin. Bref, c'est une histoire longue mais j'ai commencé à prendre des pilules. Juste pour le travail, quoi, mais la situation est devenue incontrôlable.
La jambe d'Allison remue encore. Jeanne le remarque, au bout de nerfs.

Prémier jour
Ma patronne est gentille. Elle me demande quelquefois si je ne comprends pas un mot ou autre, ou si elle parle trop vite. Mais elle ne parle pas trop vite du tout, et elle articule très bien, alors je la comprends pour la plupart. C'est vrai que il y a souvent des mots que je ne connais pas. Cependant, avec le contexte je peux suivre la discussion en général. Je se demande que signifient quelques mots ou expressions, mais je ne le fais pas trop parce que ça peut vite devenir ennuyant. Je me sens qu'elle a déjà confiance en moi, mais je ne pense pas que je la mérite. J'espère bien apprendre et faire mon rôle.

Lunedì
Mi sono goduta la giornata libera. Oggi sarebbe stato il compleanno della mia suocera, quindi stamattina siamo andati (io e mio marito) al cimitero per porterle i fiori. Poi siamo andati da KFC, le piaceva tanto.
Abbiamo una delle sue gatte e abbiamo deciso di scegliere in suo ricordo il compleanno della gatta lo stesso come quello della suocera. Ovviamente le abbiamo data un po' di cibo spazzatura, ma solo un po'. In fondo, merita essere viziata.
Non abbiamo ancora ricevuto il programma di andare in ufficio (riceviamo un'altro, separato di quello con i turni), ma sono sicura che saremo di nuovo in pochi. Il motivo per cui i capi ci vogliono lì è perché dovremo socializzare e aiutarci, ma dimenticano che non c'è stato nessun problema negli ultimi anni. Abbiamo chiacchierato anni interi online. Quando ce ne hanno detto, non potevo crederci. Rimarremo ancora in meno persone dell'anno scorso. Alcuni dei miei colleghi pensano a lasciare il lavoro, ma io non voglio pensarci. Non è il momento giusto. Non vedo l'ora di vedere come andrà tutto entro la fine dell'anno.

La sociedad de la nieve
He visto “La Sociedad de la Nieve.” Es una historia verdadera de un accidente aéreo de 1972 en Chile en las montañas de Los Andes. Un grupo de jugadores de rugby con 40 pasajeros y 5 miembros del equipo de avión de Uruguay se cayó durante una tormenta de nieve en las montañas durante el aterrizaje. Los sobrevivientes usaron todo de la alimentación en una semana, lo que forzó una decisión imposible. Debido al clima, los equipos de rescate pararon la búsqueda después de 10 días y los pasajeros se asumieron fallecidos. Los sobrevivientes soportaron las penurias como las ventiscas que mataron más personas. Una culminación de su fe y cooperación les aportaron para sobrevivir por 72 días en las condiciones duras y mortal sin comida. Aunque hubo un precio de pagar por su supervivencia, lo que desafió su creencia en Dios. Por fin, dos sobrevivientes encontraron la ayuda que estaban tan desesperadamente buscando. Después de 72 días, 16 de los 45 pasajeros originales sobrevivieron. Es una historia de la conversión a un sobreviviente, sacrificado una parte de la humanidad para continuar un día más y el poder de la generosidad de amigos.

El sueño pequeño que acabo de tener anoche.
Por desgracia, no tuve un sueño muy interesante y no duró por mucho tiempo. Vi algunos edificio hechos de ladrillos. El de ellos se parecía uno de los edificios en la escuela primaria. Había una calle negra al lado de él. No me acuerdo si tenía unas puertas, pero tenía por lo menos unas ventanas (las cuales no eran abiertas). Los ladrillos eran hechos de arcilla roja-marrón. Los ladrillos se parecen los ladrillos de Minecraft, pero no eran pixelados.
Y, eso es todo. Si mi sueño hubiera durado por más tiempo y fuera más interesante, os habría contado más. Sin embargo, siempre trato de ser honesto con mis sueños, y no quiero fingir ni mentir nada de lo que sucede en mis sueños. Espero que tenga un mejor sueño esta noche. Quiero tener un sueño lucido otra vez, pero con más control en lo cual puedo volar, y hacer lo que quiera. También quiero tener más sueños en los idiomas en los que estudio. En vez en cuando tengo sueños en los que alguien me dijo unas pocas oraciones en español, pero jamás había charlado en una conversación en un sueño, ni siquiera en mi idioma natal (el que es inglés).
Tendré un sueño lucido esta vez, creo.

Sainte-Vehme était une société secrete qui s’réunit en Westphalie, Allemagne, au milieu du treizième siècle. À cette époque, le pays était dans une anarchie totale et la sécurité publique était tellement menacée que la société servait d’autorité judiciaire au lieu du gouvernement et au cas où on condamnait à mort, elle exécutait le condamné elle-même. C’était une grande frayeur pour le peuple.
Dans ses premières années comme compositeur, Berlioz projetait un opéra « Francs-juges » inspiré de ce fait historique, dont le livret fut rédigé par un de ses amis. Cette entreprise fut mort-née et il n’en subsiste jusqu’à nos jours que l’ouverture.

How Taiwanese Culture Views Novels
When I was in middle and high school, I was drawn to literature and dedicated all of my free time to reading novels and writing stories. In the Taiwanese education system, Chinese is the only subject that incorporates literature before university. However, I detested all the articles and stories in my Chinese textbooks because they were dull and saturated with pedantic traditional Chinese philosophical beliefs, particularly those associated with Confucianism. I studied them only to prepare for my university entrance exam. Since textbooks could not satisfy my intellectual thirst, I chose my own reading materials, which were mostly Western literature. Although I was an avid reader and had a voracious appetite for learning, I was frequently mocked as a "slacker" by my classmates.
This may be inconceivable for people from Western countries, but Taiwanese people tend to associate academic life narrowly and exclusively with subjects selected by the official syllabus or national curriculum. Any reading material outside of the prescribed textbooks or having nothing to do with the university entrance exam is deemed to have no educational value. Many Taiwanese educators and parents consider reading novels as a non-academic activity and a hindrance to academic development rather than a route to it. My teachers and parents always told me off or insulted me whenever they caught me reading novels. They attributed my indifference and aversion toward my schoolwork to intellectual laziness and irresponsibility. While I was indeed hostile toward my studies, it was not because I was lazy or anti-intellectual, but rather because I believed there were other intellectual pursuits more valuable than the traditional subjects taught in school that were worthy of my attention.
I think the Taiwanese education system seriously underrates the intellectual and scholarly importance of literature. Reading novels is not escapist entertainment. Through analyzing various literary pieces, creating fictional stories, and learning worldbuilding within storytelling, I improved my literacy skills, absorbed different insights and perspectives, and enriched my thought and expression.

How to remember important things?
There are so many things that need to be remembered in my life. As age, I have to face the truth that my memory is not as sharp as it was when I was younger. For example, I am preparing for a road driving test. The driving instructor suggests that I remember at a specific intersection, where the green light can only let the first two vehicles pass. In order to not to confused with other locations, I've found a simple way to assist in remembering it by looking at the Seven-Eleven store beside the sidewalk. the big sign of Eleven was grouped by two one, so one plus one equals two. Therefore, at this location, only two vehicles are capable of passing it.

BBQ Restaurant
As my daughter graduated from university, she, my wife, and I went to a yakiniku restaurant to celebrate her graduation.
Japanese yakiniku restaurant (焼肉店) is translated as a "BBQ restaurant," "barbecue restaurant," or "Korean barbeque restaurant" in English.
However, when I hear a BBQ restaurant, I would think of a BBQ restaurant outdoor.
Therefore, in order to describe 焼肉店, I think a "Japanese indoor BBQ restaurant" might be better.

Der Bahnhof in Mailand
Eines Tages war ich am Bahnhof in Mailand. Die Informationtafeln waren überall. Die Anzahl der Schienen war jedoch nirgends angegeben. Das ist ein großer Bahnhof. Es gibt 25 Schienen. Ich habe nicht zu wissen, wo ich auf meinem Zug warten sollte. Mein Zug ist so ohne mich angefahren.
Ich habe nicht zu wissen, dass die Anzahl der Schienen ausschließlich auf der Informationtafel vor den Zügen selbst zu sehen sind.
