New year's resolutions for 2024
The first day of 2024, time to make my resolutions. Let me look back for a while.
All my apps are sending me Yearly Report these days, telling me what I have done and achieved in 2023. Yeah, smart phone has been an important part in my life. People say we are used to switching our eyes from one screen to another nowadays. I have an laptop, an smart phone and an ipad. Obviously smart phone occupies most of my attention. As for TV, that's something for my parents to kill time, not for me.
Exercise: I bought a spinning bike and a treadmill recent years. I also have a yoga mat. I didn't succeed in losing enough weight, but I will keep working on it.
Reading: I read for 197 hours last year on weread app.
Housework: I started to be interested in tidying my room. I got a app for this. When I take photos for my things and record them on this app, I don't feel like buying too many things.
Hobby: I like playing guzheng, a Chinese music instrument. I met a woman whose daughter need to learn English and she can teach me guzheng in return.
Work: I feel I didn't improve much in my job in 2023. Hope I can do better in 2024.
Plan for 2024
1 Use a time management app to record daily activities.
2 Play guzheng for at least 3 hours a week.
3 Sleep less and get up earlier.
4 Exercise everyday for at least 15 minutes.
5 Read on weread app one hour every day and win the 365 days challenge.
6 Get a hair cut once a year, dye and perm twice a year with fixed hairdresser.
7 Write weekly plan on Monday morning.
8 Do housework at least once a week.
9 Work harder, like a slave, understand the difference between me and the boss's relative co-workers.

Les grandes invasions 2
Dans les pays germaniques qui naquirent dans le territoire de l’Empire romain d’Occident, la plupart des habitants et des hauts fonctionnaires à la cour consistent en population romaine qui y demeura depuis l’ère du Dominat. Même dans les royaumes francs, dans lequel la germanisation se progressa rapidement, 80 pourcent des habitants étaient romains. La proportion des Romains ne fut moins nombreuse que 50 pourcent que sous le règne de Charlemagne à la fin du Ⅷe siècle. Les Germains de l’Est, comme les Goths étaient bien romanisés, par contre, les Germains de l’Ouest, qui arrivèrent plus tard, en partie romanisés, conservant à un certain degré l’aspect germanique, établirent la base des pays, comme l’Allemand ou l’Angleterre.

Une randonnée
Aujourd’hui, j’ai l’intention de faire une longue randonnée. Je suis sûre que vous pouvez deviner la raison pour ça. Oui, j’ai mangé comme un goinfre pendant Noël et en ce moment, je me sens un peu malade. Alors, ce matin, j’ai décidé de faire une longue randonnée.
Ma nièce m’a donné des instructions. Elle m’a conseillée de d’abord, marcher vers le terrain de golf. Quand j’y arrive, elle m’a dit qu’il y a un petit sentier qui mène au port de Rose Bay. Là, il y a beaucoup de voiliers à voir et parfois un marché en plein air. Après avoir marché sur la promenade pour 2 kilomètres, apparemment il y a une petite rangée de magasins et de cafés. Elle m’a recommandé un café appelé Soya où je peux prendre un café.
Pour retourner chez elle, elle m’a dit de suivre la rue O’Sullivan jusqu’à la fin, et puis, de traverser l’aire de jeu. Je connais déjà ce terrain de jeu et à partir de là, ce sera très facile de rentrer à la maison.

Un message de Noël par roi Charles III
Tous les ans, le roi ou la reine d’Angleterre fait un message de Noël. À partir du XVIIe siècle, la Grande-Bretagne a conquis et a colonisé de nombreux pays. Elle a crée un empire impressionnant. Je vous donne quelques exemples de pays qui ont appartenu à cet empire : les États-Unis, l’Inde, le Canada et l’Australie. À mon avis, l’origine du message de Noël était de rappeler à ces pays qui était le roi ou le reine de l’empire.
Quoi qu’il en soit, ce message est très attendu par certains. Cette année, le thème était le bénévolat. Le roi Charles a remercié les bénévoles ceux qui ont aidé les vulnérables, ont soutenu des personnes handicapées et des pauvres. Il a encouragé la communauté à prendre soins les uns des autres.
La famille royale d’Angleterre n’a aucune signification pour moi. Je n’écoute jamais ces messages. Néanmoins, cette année, je l’ai entendu et c’était très encourageant. Je suis sûre que les bénévoles l’ont bien apprécié.

Une tempête de grêle, le jour de Noël
J’ai lu dans les actualités que la région de la vallée de Hunter a été touchée par une tempête de grêle, le jour de Noël. L’Australie se trouve dans l’hémisphère sud et maintenant, c’est la saison de l’été. D’habitude, il fait chaud et la température moyenne est environ 30 degrés. Une tempête de grêle, pendant l’été, ce n’est jamais vu.
J’ai vu des photos et le sol était recouvert du neige. C’était toute blanche, à perte de vue. Même si c’était jolie et il y avait les enfants jouant dans la neige, j’ai aperçu de nombreuses voitures endommagées par la grêle. Les grêlons étaient énormes. Elle semblait avoir la taille d’une balle de golf. J’ai vu des pare-brise brisés, virés cassées et les familles sans abris.
J’étais vraiment désolée pour les résidents de cette région. Leur Noël était inattendu. Cette fois-ci, ils n’avaient pas l’occasion de s’amuser ou de faire un barbecue.

「させていただく」という言い方は微妙だ
日本語を勉強していると、母語である英語との違いに気がつく。似ていても意味や使い方が少し違う言葉、日本語にはあるが英語にはない言葉なだ、違いを考えると面白い。例えば、「させていただく」も使い方や意味合いが違う言葉の一つだ。
その違いに気がついたのは、「１日１アイデア」という本を読み始めた時のことだ。ホストマザーに「させていただくという意味はどう思うか？」と聞いたが、彼女は「日本人でも意味は正確に理解するのが難しいからこそ、意味の説明があまりできないと思うよ」と答えて、説明が書いてある「１日１アイデア」の記事をもう一度読んだ。ところが、「一つの使い方しかないという訳ではないよ。他の使い方に気をつけて」と言われ、他の使い方を調べた。そこで、ようやく日本語の「させていただく」には微妙な意味があることに気がついた。
まず、日本語の場合、何かを発表する時に「させていただく」と言われたら、「〇〇をしたいから、そうするので、適切な言葉で相手に伝えたい」という意味であることが多いようだ。それに対して、英語の場合、このような時に「I would like to~/Let me~（〜させていただく）」と言われても「自分の気持ちも表したい」という意味だとは考えない。むしろ、慣用語としてよく言うので、「あまり意味がないことだ」と考える人が多い。
「させていただく」という言葉は中級で習った敬語だが、異文化間のコミュニケーションの難しさを実感させられた。

Matematik på universitet
I en tidigare post sa jag att jag studerar matematik. Rätt nu har jag flera kurser, som 'reell analys' och 'sannolikhet och statistik'. Några av dem är intressanta, men andra är tråkiga. Personligen föredrar jag sannolikhet, det har många applikationer i världen. Man kan modellera någonting som en tillfällig variabel, till exempel temperaturen på en stad.

My Private Notebooks
I've been using Google's Blogger to make my English notebooks. After using many services, I'd like to recommend this one to keep your notes because it's the most trustworthy service on the net I know and seems to let us create as many blogs as we want. (I've messed up many blogs and started new ones. It turned out that all of them are not open to the public. All of these for free!) More than anything it has the ability to search the whole blog. The search box is nothing new, but this feature really makes your notebooks actually work for you.
Actually, I am now busy recording notes to it from corrections and answers given at Lang-8, the language community that is going to close down for good soon. I find the process of note-making is good for me to study and learn as well.

Haustiere
Ich habe kein Haustier. Ich habe noch nie ein Haustier. Als Kind war ich sehr eifersüchtig auf anderen Kinder, die Haustier hatten. Drei Monaten vor habe ich eine Freundin besucht. Sie hat einen schwarzen Hund, der "Monty" heißt. Mein Lieblingstier ist ein Faultier. Ich denke, dass Faultier süß aussehen.

Ya que ella había tenido ese orzuelo desde hace mucho tiempo y no estaba empeorando, el doctor decidió recomendarle que no hiciera nada.
Siempre hemos sabido que ellos tienen una guarida en algún lugar cerca de aquí, pero nos hizo pensar bien cuando uno de ellos dijo al otro 'muéstrasela'.
Él es tan miope que ni siquiera puede volver a casa si pierde sus lentes.
Se lo dije mil veces pero ella nunca logra cometer a memoria el nombre de ese árbol: el olmo.

Les grandes invasions
Les grandes invasions commencèrent en 375 par le déplacement des Goths, un des peuples germaniques, qui entrèrent, ayant été poussés par les Huns, dans les territoires de l’Empire romain. Par la suite, nombre de peuples germaniques empiétèrent maintes fois sur la terre romaine. Ces déplacements se faisaint parfois de manière paisible et parfois menaçante. Les causes de ce movement étaient possiblement les pressions d’ autres peuples, les changements climatiques et les changements du système économique provoqués par les changements climatiques.
Peu après, la domination de l’empeur de l’Empire romain d’Occident s’effondra. On peut donc remarquer que les grandes invasions pourraient susciter la débâcle de ce dernier.

Les mythes
Actuellement, je lis un livre intitulé « Slavic Myths » Ma grand-mère me l'a acheté hier quand nous sommes allés au libraire. Je n'ai lu qu’un chapitre mais je le trouve amusant. Il faut finir le livre avant que je puisse déterminer mes vrais sentiments. Il s'agit des mythes qui tirent leurs origines des cultures slaves. Je connais un peu les mythes grecques et romains, mais pas trop sur les mythes slaves.

2023年12月31日（大晦日とNetflix番組についての話）
今日は2023年最後の日です。今年いろいろなことがありました、仕事に関する大変なことが起きました。そして、家族と離れて、一人暮らしを始めました。嬉しいことがあり、大変なこともあり、一年はあっという間に終わりました。
来年、新しい同僚といい仲になって、仕事がうまくいって、景気が良くなって、そして日本語も少し上手になります、と願っています。最も重要なことは、皆も元気に過ごすことです。
ところで、今日やっと新垣結衣出演した「獣になれない私たち」という番組を見終わりました。Netflixで見ました。最初ちょっどつまらないと思いますですけど、後半からけっこう面白くなりました。ネタバレしたくないので、こちらに詳しく話しません、でも番組中にいろいろな社長と社員の交流の面白いシーンがあって、興味があったらぜひ見てみてください。
次は「テラスハウス」という番組を試しに見てみるつもりです。Redditでたくさん人がおすすめです、生活に関する会話をよく使うので、ずいぶん日本語勉強者向きそうです。たのしみながら、聴力も上がればいいと思います。

New Year in 2024
Three hours later in my local time zone, I will enter the new year of 2024. Let's give a simple conclusion in the past year and share expectations for the coming one.
I finally reached my goal in early December, which I had given up already. Although, ideally, the perfect date should be in August. Nonetheless, I succeeded. Here, thanks to a church leader in Britain, who has regularly spoken with me every two weeks, encouraging and praying for me. Thank God for this great and kind priest. Furthermore, on the last day of 2023, I saw Lady Mari again on this website, who has encouraged me to keep on writing although I am really not skilled in it.
In the coming new year of 2024. I can anticipate I will face more unexpected challenges and experience some hard matters, however, moments of joy and exciting news will also come to me. I hope I can figure out all the possible matters in 2024.
I am so grateful to everyone who has spent time reading and proofreading my non-native and non-natural entries, I understand it was a hard task for you. Good luck to each of you in the new year!
