Bon Nadal en ple estiu

Celebrar el Nadal a Sud-àfrica sempre era una experiència rara.

Sud-àfrica és un país jove, amb una barreja de cultures de molts països. Els avantpassats de la meva família van venir d'Irlanda i Anglaterra fa molt anys. Per això la meva família va celebrar el Nadal amb un assortiment de costumbres que a me semblaven estranyes i sense connexió a les nostres vides.

Per a nosaltres, Nadal era una festa de ple estiu. El costumbre d'Anglaterra és un dinar enorme el dia de Nadal. Però amb temperatures amunt de trenta-cinc graus, vam preferir anar a la platja i tenir una sopa de Nadal. Ser honesta, el meu pare i els nens van anar a la platja i la meva mare va quedar-se a la cuina.

Segon los anglesos, el gall dindi és la carn de Nadal però no ens va agradar, doncs al seu lloc vam menjar el pollastre. A part del meu pare, tampoc ens va agradar ni el pastís de Nadal, ni el púding de Nadal. Tots dos són aliments càlids i pesats de los països de fred i neu. Sempre vam menjar el pastís i el púding.

El costumbre més impactante per a mi com una petita era l'arbre de Nadal. Sempre vam tenir un arbre real, quasi tan alt com el sostre de la sala. Els meus pares van posar els regals a sota de l'arbre el nit de Nadal i nosaltres nens havíem d'esperar tot del dia de Nadal, perquè només vam obrir els regals després de la sopa.

Però no van ser els regals que em vaig agradar més. Van ser les espelmes. Mai vam posar llums elèctric a l'arbre. Vam posar docentes d'espelmes petits i després de la sopa vam encendre tots. La casa va tenir gran finestres i tots van mostrar els reflexions dels espelmes. Va ser un moment màgic.

Amb mirada retrospectiva, també va ser un moment de perill. La casa d'estiu dels meus pares era una petita cabanya de troncs al bell mig del matoll. Vam tenir bona sort mai tenir un incendi.

How to count a four-digit number

I am not 100% sure, but I feel that there are two ways to count a four-digit number.

For example, when we count 2972 in English, we say 2 thousand, 9 hundred, and seventy-two. This is a way that we learned at school.

However, I often hear a newscaster saying twenty-nine hundred, seventy-two.

I wonder if both of them are the right ways to count.

Pokemon GO: Making a hot spot in my rural town

I've been playing Pokemon GO since the launch. Despite the fever at the launch, It felt like no one besides me was playing the game in my rural small town.

I edited a nearby park last year on a website called Open Street Map, which is where Pokemon Go extracts the map data from for various uses. A few months later, the said park became what's called a nest, making it a great spot to play the game. And local players started to come to the park when events are ongoing.

This year, the park became eligible for EX raids, which gives you a chance at catching a rare legendary Pokemon if you win the battle. More and more people started to come to the park to get an invitation for the EX.

And last month, they finally allowed Pokemon GO players to submit a POI to create a new pokestop. I've successfully created more than 10 new pokestops in my town since then, including 2 in the park. Being rural helps submissions go through faster.

Today, I participated in an EX raid in the park. The parking was full and I saw more than 20 people playing the game despite it was cold and raining.
We won the battle with ease, and I caught a Regigigas, an EX exclusive legendary Pokemon.
My hard work of 2 years totally paid off today and so this was my success story. Yay!

I want to be able to speak English. In Japan, junior high school and high school learn English, but most people cannot speak English. I didn't have the opportunity to speak English at school. It is difficult to learn a language without speaking.

애스트럴 체인과 Untitled Goose Game

어제 크리스마스 선물로 닌텐도 스위치 게임 하나를 받았고 오늘 자신에게 주는 선물로 2개 더 샀다. 어제 남친에게 받은 거는 "애스트럴 체인"이었고 오늘 산 것들은 "Untitled Goose Game" 과 "Return of the Obra Dinn"이었다. 오랫동안 기대한 "애스트럴 체인"부터 해봤는데 너무 재미있었다. "애스트럴 체인"에는 주인공으로 인간을 위협하는 괴생물을 죽여야 돈다. 그 목적을 이루기 위해서 애스트럴 채인으로 자신과 이어진 레기온이라는 존재를 활용해서 싸워야 한다. 아직까지는 많이 해 보지 못했는데 나의 첫인상은 "애스트럴 채인"이 정말 흥미롭고 재미있는 게임인 것이다.

"Untitled Goose Game"의 전제는 "애스트럴 채인"과 훨씬 간단하다. 주인공은 거위고, 거위로 플레이어의 목적은 마을에 사는 사람들을 최대한 많이 괴롭히는 것이다. 그리고 그 것을 다양한 방법으로 할 수 있다. 예를 들어서 게임에 처음 들어갈 때 정원사의 모자를 훔쳐서 다른 모자를 쓰게 해야 되고 정원사의 보온병 등을 훔쳐서 소풍을 차려야 한다. "Untitled Goose Game"의 매력은 그런 엉뚱한 것들을 사람이 아닌 거위로 어떻게 할 수 있는지를 알아내는 것과 마을 사람들의 반응을 보고 그들의 분노에 만끽하는 것에 있다.

伊勢神宮の旅

今朝奈良県からしまかぜという近鉄電車で初めて伊勢神宮に行きました。まず宇治山田駅から歩いて外宮という神社に訪れました。他の神社やお寺に比べて、建物と橋は中国の影響が全然見えなかった。特に木製な鳥居は何も塗れなくて結構自然的が感じました。その後でバスで内宮神社に行きました。内宮も面白かったが外宮より混んでいたので、雰囲気があまり荘厳じゃないと思いました。出るの上で内宮の向こうに店が多いです。600メートル先、おかげ横上という伝統的な市場があります。専門店でたくさん食べてしまったが、一番美味しかった食べ物が松坂牛串でした。

친구들이 놀러 오는 크리스마스

오늘은 크리스마스다! 남친은 오래 전부터 알고 있는 친구 2명을 우리 집으로 초대해서 아침에 일어나서 공부를 조금 한 뒤에 집 청소를 했다. 그리고 오후에 핀구한 명이 왔다. 그 친구의 이름은 민성이고 민성이는 노래를 엄청 잘 부른다. 지난 번에 우리 집에 왔을 때 민성이와 나는 노래를 같이 불렀고 너무 재미있어서 이번에 민성이는 기타를 가져왔다. 나는 노래를 많이 잘하는 편은 아닌데 민성이는 기타도 잘 피고 노래도 잘 부르고 내가 노래 부를 때 나를 많이 응원해줘서 노래를 같이 하는 게 재미있다.

노래를 한참 하다가 오늘 저녁우로 먹을 것을 사러 슈퍼에 같이 갔다. 남친과 민성이랑 소고기, 채소, 와인 등 맛있는 것을 많이 산 다음에 집에 돌아갔다. 그리고 좀 그 다음에 2번째 초대한 친구 수정이가 도착했다. 수정이는 이른 아침부터 일하고 퇴근한 뒤에 바로 우리 집으로 와서 그런지 금방 잠들었다. 우리 남친도 잠들었고 나와 민성이는 노래 연습을 계속했다. 그리고 쿠키를 같이 만들었다. 민성이는 쿠키를 처음 만들어봐서 많이 신기해했다.

우리 남친과 수정이가 잠에서 깬 후에 민성이는 소고기를 구워줬고 나와 남친과 수정이는 세팅을 했다. 우리는 이제 소고기를 다 먹었고 이제 핀킨을 먹을 것 같다. 정말 즐거운 크리스마스다!

Despite Christmas

I reviewed some words on Youtube, despite Christmas.
These words are the ones that I cannot memorize although I went through over and over.

Here are some of them that I focused on today.
admonish, abdicate, detract from, balk at, flaunt.

"Flaunt" seems like to be often used together with "brazen".
"Abdicate" seems likely to be often followed by "one's responsibility".

When I looked for the usage of "admonish" on Youtube, a lot of footage of preaches at church came through.

Sonntag, 22. Dezember

Gestern waren meine Frau und ich im Stadtzentrum. Üblicherweise fahren wir nur mit dem öffentliches Verkehrsmittels unserer Stadt. Da wir nicht im Zentrum wohnen, müssen wir in der Regel mehr als ein Mittels benutzen/nehmen (was passt besser hier?).

Dieses Mal sind wir nach dem Stadtzentrum mit der S-bahn und der U-bahn gefahren. Übrigens haben wir ein Paar Freunde in seinem Zuhause im Zentrum besucht.
