Thank you very much for correcting me.
Decades ago in the countryside in China, farmers held their grains with "茓子" (xué zi). This stuff was made from reed strips (as you can see in the picture), it was narrow and long.
When farmers use it, while putting grains in its circle, they just rotate it and make it gradually higher.
I didn't know how to say it in English at first, and I saw a translation app that said that it was a "coarse mat".
Because I am not sure, I got a picture of it to make it clear to my readers.
There is a Chinese word "当场" or "现场"(dāng chǎng, xiàn chǎng), I also didn’t know an equivalent English word for it. I looked the word up on a translation app. The app gave me the phrase "on the spot", but I am still not sure if it is correct.
By saying "we baked the sweet potatoes on the spot" means where we found them and where we baked them.
I hope I made myself clear.

Una lettera alla redazione
A chi di competenza,
Da molti anni sono un appassionato della Sua rivista, "La settimana pessimistica". La scrivo oggi di alcune cose che sono successe di recente, e di cui non riesco ad ignorare più.
Innanzitutto, l'ultimo numero è arrivato nella posta un giorno dopo la data scritta sulla testata. Poi, mi sono reso conto che l'etichetta su cui il mio indirizzo era scritto copre parzialmente la foto sulla copertina. Inoltre, sono stato disilluso di scoprire che la tabella di contenuti è stata spostata da pagina tre a pagina cinque.
Infine, dopo averla aperto, mi ha fatto la pagina un graffio sulla dita. Non supporto mai questo tipo di ferita dalla mia rivista preferita.
Vorrei che mi dà un rimborso per la parte non ancora usato del mio abbonamento e cancellarlo subito.

Schlaf
Ich benötige 8 Stunden Schlaf pro Nacht.
Ich schnarche manchmal im Schlaf. Mein Vater schnarcht viel laut. Als Kind konnte ich nachts es hören, ihn zu schnarchen. Auch wenn ich im Erdgeschoss war und er im Obergeschoss war. Ich glaube, dass ich nicht so laut wie mein Vater schnarche.
Ich glaube nicht, dass ich im Schlaf spreche. Ich habe nicht es erlebt, jemand im Schlaf zu sprechen.
Ich bin nie schlafgewandelt. Mein Cousin ist schlafgewandelt. Während er geschlafen hat, ist er aus dem Haus gegangen und die Straße entlang gelaufen.

Un mensaje a los extraterrestres
Hoy, voy a responder a una pregunta en inglés: "Si pudieses enviar un mensaje a los extraterrestres, ¿qué sería? ¿Qué tipo de sonidos, images o videos incluirías?"
Yo no enviaría nada a los extraterrestres, no pienso para nada que sea una buena idea. Si son capaces de hacer viajes interstellares, significa que su capacidades tecnológicas son mucho más avanzadas que las nuestras. Por tanto, enviándoles un mensaje, nos ponemos en una situación de inferioridad. De hecho, si nuestros nuevos amigos del espacio decidiesen esclavazarnos o transformanos en una despensa grande, ¿qué haríamos?
Por supuesto, hay aquella creencia (un poco ingenua, a mi modo de ver) que seres avanzados deben estar también más avanzados socialmente y filosóficamente, pero las obras de ciencia ficción son llenas de razas avanzadas que son muy bellicosas. Aún mirando a nuestra propria especie, la especie humana, se entiende que cuando un pueblo tiene la superioridad tecnológica sobre un otro, en general, aprovecha la oportunidad para subyugarlo o destruirlo.
Fue el destino de la mayoría de las poblaciones indigenas de América. También fue una de las razones de las conquistas mongólicas. Los Mongoles no tenían el nivel tecnológico de China o del mundo arabe, pero sus arcos compuestos (que tenían un alcance muy superior) y sus tácticas de caballería les darón una ventaja decisiva.
Ahora, imaginad la situación con una especie alien que podría anihilarnos con una nave espacial... Suponiendo que hay vida intelligente en el cosmos, hasta ahora nosotros humanos pasamos inadvertidos, ¡y está muy bien así!

Voyagers
In 1977 the two Voyagers spacecrafts, were launched including in each one, a gold disk with the sounds and images of Earth. Possibly, the better idea would be no send any message with information from us. Anyway, from the invention of radio and TV, we are sending signals to space day to day. So, is too late.
My message could be "Aliens, don't come to our home, 'The Earth'. This humanity is very crazy and they are very dangerous."

Primer día
Esta es la primera vez que yo he escrito en español en no sé cuántos años. Después de mudarme a Japón, no he tenido el tiempo suficiente para estudiar nada más que el japonés y lamento que he dejado el español por necesidad. La verdad es que no hay otro idioma del mundo que amo más que el español porque es el primer que conocí después del inglés. Sin embargo, sin tener la oportunidad de usarlo, temo que yo ya no pueda ni hablar ni escribir como antes. Ahora me cuesta mucho más para expresarme y me doy cuenta que mis frases tienen una torpeza que no habían antes. Espero que yo pueda recuperar todo lo que he perdido y aún avanzar a un nivel todavía nunca obtenido. Te agradezco por ser la primera persona de ayudarme con este reto.

zusammenleben
In verschiedenen Zeitungen habe ich Schlagzeilen zum Thema „zusammenleben-ja oder nein?“ gelesen und möchte hierzu meine Meinung ausdrücken. Die erste Schlagzeile drückt aus, dass die Scheidungsrate steigt und bringt eine in Betracht ziehende Frage zur Sprache: „Warum funktioniert das Modell Ehe nicht mehr?“. Die Scheidungsrate zeigt die soziale Probleme, die in meinem Land von der Religion stammen. Im Islam dürfen Frauen vor der Heirat keine sexuelle Beziehung mit Männer haben, weshalb heiraten die Frauen sehr bald, die in einer religiösen Familie aufgezogen sind, um ihre altmodische religiöse Familie entfernt zu werden. Dies verursacht viele Probleme in neuen gebildeten Familien und führt zur Scheidung. Anderer Grund der Scheidung wäre finanzielle Probleme. Es gibt mehrere Gründen, um ein Paar sich zu trennen. Mit der zweiten Schlagzeile stimme ich überhaupt nicht überein. Wie ich immer sage, das ist eine persönliche Sache, die für jeden anders ist. Für manche Menschen definiert die Zufriedenheit in Zweisamkeit und für Andere funktioniert nur allein zu leben . Wir können nicht pauschal sagen, dass das Leben für nur eine Gruppe schöner oder einfacher ist.
Dritte Schlagzeile äußert, dass die Junge statt heiraten in einer offener Beziehung sein wollen. Obwohl es im Iran verboten ist, leben einige Paaren zusammen, aber leider funktioniert es selten, besonders langfristig. Meiner Meinung nach wollen ein Paar nach langer Zeit alles im Leben zusammen teilen. Vor allem finanzielle Schwierigkeiten spielt eine große Rolle. Man darf nicht ein Kind bekommen ohne zu heiraten. Deswegen ist es nicht eine Wahl hier zu heiraten, sondern eine Pflicht. Die Freiheit der Entscheidungen fehlt in meinem Land wegen der falschen Entscheidungen der Regierung. Jeder hat das Recht frei zu leben, egal was passiert!

Spoiler Alert: A Sensitive Issue
I’m always looking for language partners so that I can practise my English and improve my fluency. Finding a suitable language partner isn’t an easy task. Believe me, I know about what I’m speaking.
Today, I’m going to write about the last person I met. She is a Russian lady who has literally written on her profile from one of those websites for language learners that she is against war and for peace. Although my main goal is to practise my English, I love helping those who want to improve my tongue language and if by doing so, I can learn about other cultures, sunshine and flowers. This lady is the best chance I have to learn about what is happening in Russia since all the information coming from that country is completely biased. For experience, I know that Russians, or at least a lot of them, believe that what happens in Ukraine is the opposite. By exchanging text messages with this lady, I have confirmed many things that I already knew such as that there are very few people who think like her and according to her, every passing day, there will be even fewer. The reason is that the opposition leaders, and all the relevant people who are against the government - such as journalists, artists, scientists, and even some politicians - are abroad, in prison or God knows where else. There were Russians that thought that the best way to show their condemnation against their government was by staying in their country and holding demonstrations. However, these kinds of things don’t work in Russia, or at least the Russia of Putin, as they do in democratic countries. For us, or at least for me, it’s very hard to think that you can go out and express your views. Just by pronouncing the words war or invasion you’ll be charged and end up in jail for a minimum of fifteen years.
I’m leaving many things out but my post is already too long and I’m sure by now you’ll be already bored.

How Children Baked Sweet Potatoes in the Fields in the Old T
Every year after sweet potatoes were harvested, there were still some of them remaining under the soil of the farmland.
A very exciting thing for us children was to dig out the sweet potatoes.
We carried a basket and a shovel and went to the sweet potato farmland. Our secret to finding a sweet potato was to find a stem outside of the soil and dig followed it.
After we got a few sweet potatoes, we dug a small ditch in the field and spread the sweet potatoes horizontally on it. Then found some crop straw, put the straw inside the ditch and burned the straw to bake the sweet potatoes.
When the sweet potatoes' color became dark, they were almost done. We stopped burning, pushed the sweet potatoes inside the ditch and covered them with a thick layer of soil.
Ten or twenty minutes later, we could eat the delicious baked sweet potatoes.

An Unforgettable Memory in My Childhood
I was born and raised in the countryside. My parents were farmers.
Our main food back then was sweet potatoes, which were planted by every family.
The sweet potato harvest season is usually in the middle of October. After a few cold and frosty mornings, the sweet potato leaves became withered. That meant the harvest season had come.
People used cattle and a plow to plow the sweet potatoes out of the soil, followed by others who picked up the sweet potatoes and put them into a basket that they carried.
Children often helped their parents to pick up the sweet potatoes and they were always very happy about doing so.
Because sweet potatoes were our main food for the whole year, we had to store them very well. First, people would dig a cellar, and then place some sweet potatoes in it in order to eat it later. Second, people would cut some of them into thin slices and spread them onto farmland to dry them in the sun. When it was done, people collected them and put them into a coarse mat that every family had.
The enjoyment in the sweet potato harvest season was that we children could look for some left sweet potatoes in the farm land and bake them in the spots.
The worst thing was that when I slept soundly at midnight, my parents woke me up because it rained, and we had to collect the sweet potato slices that were on the farmland.

Wie haben die Briten unsere Macht ergreift? Obwohl wir damalig keine gute Waffe Technologie hatten, hatten wir viel Mehr als die Briten denken konnten. Natürlicher Schutz, stärker Beziehung zwischen die Bevölkerung und der König, haben die Kraft der Britische verhindert, damit uns auf dem Vormarsch sein. Aber der Britische hat nicht aufgegeben. Sie waren wirklich schlau und manipulativ. Ihrer Ambition war echt stark und unaufhaltsam. Stück für Stück haben sie Planen gemacht, um uns zu kolonisieren und ihrer Erste-Einschränkung war unser Volk. Die Kraft der Kandyan Königreich war alles – der Geist der Leute. Beide Portugiesische und Holländisch haben zuerst Krieg erklärt und beide könnten gar nicht vollständig Kraft das Land zu erhalten. Aber die Briten waren schlauer. Sie haben Pläne schmieden, um zuerst die Beziehung zwischen die Leute und der König abzuschwächen. Zuerst haben sie mit den Leuten näher der König konspiriert. Aber warum haben Sie der König betrügt? Für nichts als die Macht, dass die Briten versprochen haben - falsche Versprechungen, haben sie später realisiert. In der Geschichte wird es meldet, dass die Briten sogar für den König Alkohol als Geschenke eingeführt haben und deshalb haben der König süchtig nach Alkohol geworden. Langsam hat der König das Vertraut der Leute verloren und der König hat sich gegen die Gesellschaft gewendet. Alles war auf dem Grund, dass die Briten und die Komplizinnen Macht brauchen. Der König hat total verrückt geworden und viele wichtige Personen wie Politiker, Kinder und Mönche enthauptet. Blind vor Zorn, hat die Bevölkerung den Briten für Aushilfe gefragt, und hat sich nicht mehr das Königreich verteidigt. Es ist klar ersichtlich, dass die Briten der Zorn der Leute entfacht haben und haben die Leute und König aufeinanderhetzt. Sie sind gerade die Gewinne eingefahren und der Rest ist doch eine ganz andere Geschichte.

How do I overcome this deep depression?
How do I overcome this deep depression? I don't know why. Other people can give an advice but not myself.
I just got depression yesterday and I feel very bad because I got very bad feedback from life in the whole day. Let me tell you one by one from my own story and how I defeat the depression. Opinion always be the first: You need to build a strong mindset and the most reliable person is yourself, only yourself.
I am doing my internship in a big company in China. And I forgot to attend the weekly meeting in the morning yesterday when I am falling in my work. My mentor or leader (actually he doesn’t want me to call him mentor) told me:” Dude, you are working. You can go home to work if you play the single game.” I thought everyone and big boss are mad but I get to know nobody noticed this and the meeting is not a big deal, but I get the bad feedback from my leader, his attitude is bad when he was talking with me. This was the first bad thing for me.
I am a sophomore at a top university in Malaysia, and I keep a not bad grade as a 2 times dean’s list holder. I am confident and complacent. I was preparing for a presentation and I thought my work is great, dr is mad when I finished my presentation. He said I am out of the topic because I was promoting a to B product called lark but he wants me to promote a consumer product. I don’t understand why to B product is not a consumer product. And I was debating with him, he told me I will get low marks if I still stick that. This was the second bad thing for me.
I got two fails in one day. In further, I have deep depression and was very unhappy whole day. However, I was very happy today.
How do I do? I have changed my mindset.
At the beginning, I try to share my sadness to my friends but It doesn’t work even if my friend comforted me. I only feel unhelpful when I finished my complaint and grumble. I actually overcome the obstacles when I told myself I should be a strong person like Kobe, learbon James, and Jordan.
“Don’t easily explore your gentle and vulnerable side to people no matter who they are. Try to digest and process the bad matter yourself. And only you can save yourself in the situation. You might ask, what if I can not? I am sorry I have to say:” You have to do that because this is the course of growing up.”
There should be some people who have experienced the same journey like us. We only be more strong and strong that we can survive in the suffering. And I believe you can do it.
Everyone is a lonely and lovely island. I believe you are the strong one!

El hermano lento
Mi mejor amigo tiene un hermano menor que siempre se ha mantenido un poco aislado. Además se comportaba de manera extraña a veces. Creo que lo consentían demasiado cuando era joven, lo cual estorbó su desarrollo de autoestima y sentido de responsabilidad. En la escuela le costaba despabilarse por lo cual se demorraba bastante en prepararse para la escuela. Resultaba que mi amigo llegaba tarde a menudo porque su madre llevaba los dos en coche y el menor era muy lento en salir de la casa. Después de matricularse a la universidad siguío viviendo en casa con sus padres en vez de mudarse a un residencia universitaria. Es donde los adolescentes normalmente aprenden a cuidarse y hacer las tareas que los padres normalmente hacen para los hijos cuando aún están en casa. Mi amigo me contó una vez que pilló a su hermano pegado a la televisión desayunando y cuando le preguntó que estaba haciendo porque suponía que él debería estar yendo a clase, le respondió que no lo sabía.

En janvier, on avait un examen formatif et j’étais en retard pour 5 mins et donc étais refusée de le passer. Aujourd’hui, c’est le même examen mais cette fois-ci, la note est compté pour déterminer si on peut entrer dans la classe supérieure. Je suis très à l’heure aujourd’hui et je suis arrivée 30 minutes tôt pour éviter la tragédie. Mais cette fois-ci, il y a un camarade qui est en retard pour 10 minutes et on doit tous attendre pour lui pour commencer. En attendant pour ce camarde, j’ai demandé à les soignants dentaires pourquoi il n’était pas refusé pour un retard de 10 minutes tandis que j’étais refusé pour un retard de 5 mins mais elles m’ont simplement répondu que j’étais très en retard la dernière fois et que l’examen avait déjà commencé la dernière fois quand je suis arrivée, sans autre explication. Quelle drôle idée ! De plus, un de mes camarades m’a accusé pour être si non-gentile.
Je pense que si elles m’avaient dit que « parce que cet examen est plus important que la dernière fois », je l’accepterais. Mais pour une explication comme ça, je crois qu’on me doit une apologie. C’est injuste mais en tout cas, c’est comme ça dans cette faculté. Moi, en tant qu’étudiante, ne peux rien changer.

Policier autochtone
Récemment, j’ai abonné à une application qui s’appelle ici tou.tv. C’est un peu comme Netflix, mais avec les films et séries québécoises. Je l’aime beaucoup.
Mon plan de match avec cette application c’est de regarder beaucoup de contenu québécois. Je trouve que quand j’écoute beaucoup de français mon expression a l’orale s’améliore naturellement.
Une des séries qui j’ai commencé a regardé s’appelle “policier autochtone”. C’est une documentaire qui suivre les vies de douze policiers autochtones et qu’est ce qu’ils font au quotidien. La plupart de ces gens à grandir sur la réserve où il travaille et ça ajoute un élément de difficulté parce que parfois ils doit gérer les personnes qu’ils connaissent très bien.
Je viens juste de finir le premier épisode, alors j’ai pas grandes choses à dire. Cependant, je vais vous tenir au courant.
