Mon journal

I want to speak English naturally, not like a textbook! 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️
I want to speak like a native!! Seriously!!🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🔥🔥

Would you please help me by correcting anything that's wrong or sounds unnatural in my sentences?
You can change whatever you want!
It's alright if you change an entire sentence!!
I'd like to learn some common phrases and slang! 🙏
Also, I'd like to get your advice on how to have conversations with English speakers.
I'm looking forward to your constructive criticism.✍️

B: Excuse me, I can't get out of the ticket gate, do you know how?
A: What's going on?
B: The ticket gate won't open.
A: I see. Did you use an Ic card?
B: Yes.
A: Maybe you need to recharge it. I think ticket gate shows the reason why you can't get out. So can I ask you to try one more time?
B: Sure. I'll go then, okay?
A: Yup.
B: See.
A: Oh, okay.
B: Did you find the cause?
A: Yeah, your balance is low. You can recharge it over there, so let's recharge it and try again. Do you want to charge? Do you want to pay only the difference?
B: Which should I do?
A: That's up to you. If you still plan to take the train, you should recharge it. If you don't need the train any more, you should pay the difference.
B: I see. I'll recharge it then. Which machine should I use?
A: Um, either one is fine.
B: Okay, I just put it here?
A: Yup. If you press here, it'll be in English.
B: Oh, nice. Will it be enough for about 2000 yen?
A: Here is written the shortage. If you still plan to take the train, it might be OK to put that much in.
B: Okay. Yes! It's done.
A: OK, let's see what happens.
B: Oh, nice. Thank you. Thank you very much.
A: Good for you. Have a nice day!
B: Thanks! You too.

Dialogue (fiction) - 7.16.22

– « Réveille-toi ! C'est la journée nationale de bretzel ! » [Il aime des bretzels.]

– « Hein ? Que se passe-t-il ? »

– « Il faut qu'on aille ! Tu as encore dormi trop longtemps.

– « Oh oui, maintenant je me souviens. Peut-on arrête au McDo en chemin ? »

– « Regarde le calendrier. C'est samedi. »

B: Excuse me, I don't see a place to recharge a IC card, do you know where I can charge this?
A: Around here. Oh, hmm, that's strange. I thought there was ones around here.
B: Right?
A: Oh, here it is!
B: Ohh, nice.
A: It's in a very inconspicuous place, right? I'm sorry, the hospitality system in Japan is not very well organized.
B: No worries. It's all right. Thank you very much.
A: No problem. Have a nice day!

A: Hey, what's wrong?
B: I might've dropped my wallet somewhere.
A: Have you checked all the pockets?
B: Yeah.
A: Take again look carefully and calmly. Look in your pants, bag, and pockets.
B: Okay.
Nothing.
A: What about your hip or breast pocket? Or the side of your bag?
B: Nothing.
A: Then try to remember when you last had it. If you can't remember, think about when you left home today.
B: Well, I had it until I was on the train, so maybe I dropped it there.
A: Okay, I'll call the station clerk now so tell me what station you got on, what line you were on, and where you were going. Also, if you remember, please tell me what time too.
B: Well, wait a minute, I got on at station D, and I don't remember the rest of the stations.
A: Which station were you trying to get to?
B: Tokyo station.
A: About what time did you get on the train?
B: Around 2:00 p.m.
A: Wait a minute. So this is the way to go? (shows the app)
B: Ummm, no, it's not.
A: Then this one?
B: Oh, maybe this one. A: Okay.
A: Okay. I'll call the station, just wait a minute, and give me your phone number so that the station staff can call you on your cell phone if they find it.
B: Ok. 000.
A: Okay.
The station staff will look for it and call you if they find it. They may find it today, or someone may deliver it to the station later. I don't know when they'll call, but if they do, please pick up the phone.
B: Okay. That was really helpful. Thank you very much.
A: You dropped your wallet, do you have any money?
B: I put some coins in my pocket, so I have some.
A: Will you be able to go home?
B: Yeah, I think so.
A: Take this just in case.
B: No, no, no, no, I can't take it, that's too much money.
A: It's not that much, but it'll let you do some more sightseeing, right? Since you came all the way to Japan, you can do more sightseeing with this.
B: Oh my gosh. Are you sure?
A: Sure.
B: Thank you very much. I will definitely repay you someday. May I have your phone number?
A: No, it's alright. Well, if you find the wallet, donate some of the money somewhere. I'd like it to go to animals who are about to be put down.
B: Okay. I'll definitely do that!
A: Thank you so much. Anyway, have a nice trip now! Take care!
B: Oh, thank you very much.
A: You're very welcome. Bye!
B: I hope to see you again!
A: You too!

A: I'm not sure.
I'll check it out.
B: Thank you very much!
A: Is D library OK?
B: YES
A: There is, but it's closed on Tuesday.
B: Oh, okay. do you know what time it opens there?
A: It says from 9 to 8 on Weekdays and Saturdays and from 9 to 5 on Sundays. So it's closed on Tuesdays.

B: Excuse me, may I ask how to buy tickets?
A: Sure. By the way, do you have such a card, called Suica or Pasmo?
B: No, I don't.
A: If you use trains and buses in Japan, it would be handy for you. You can use it at many convenience stores, vending machines, and many other chain stores.
B: Can travelers get one?
A: Yes, I think so. I think there's also a special card for foreign visitors to Japan. I have no idea if they are more economical than the regular ones, because I don't have special one, but if you want to get a regular one, you can get one now.
B: How much does it cost?
A: You have to pay 500 yen at first, but it's a deposit, so if you don't use it anymore, you can return it to the station and get 500 yen back. So it's practically free.
B: Where can I buy one?
A: You can usually buy an Ic-card from a ticket machine. But I have no idea about the special ones unless I look them up. If you want a special one, I can look it up for you.
B: That would be helpful.
A: Okay. Gimme a minute. Well, there're a lot of places where you can buy tickets, and near here you can buy tickets at Ueno station, but I didn't know if it's a good deal or not. I don't think it's not a good deal, but the pasmo says you get a discount if you show it at tourist attractions, but it doesn't say where the discount is valid, so it may be valid at places you don't plan to go. If you do buy it, you better ask the station staff where the discount is valid before you buy it. Also, suica didn't offer much in the way of benefits. No deposit or something, same with pasmo. The only other thing is that the design of the special both card are a little bit more special than the normal one. It looks like this (showing a picture).
B: Oh, I see.
A: So if you're not that attracted to it, I think it's OK to use a regular one. I'll leave it to you. What do you want to do?
B: Well, what's the difference between PASMO and Suica?
A: Let's see. I think it's the company. Well, I think they are almost the same. But I guess there are more people who use Suica. I don't really know the difference either. I think PASMO doesn't charge a comission when you refund the charged balance, but I heard that Suica charges about 200 yen. Instead, Suica can use up even the smallest change on the card balance because you can also use the Suica balance plus cash to make purchases when shopping. Also, Suica has a longer history, so I guess it has a wider range of use. But I've never been to a place where I couldn't use PASMO, so I think you can use either one in most places. I think there's a difference in the places where you can buy it. Because the company is different. Bottom line, it's almost the same. I think you should buy a card that can be used at the station where you are at the time you want to buy it.
B: I see.
If you want, I can show you how to buy it now. What do you want to do?
B: Hmmm, if it's convenient, I'll buy it.
A: OK. Let's go to the ticket machine.
This place only sells Suica tickets.
Is Suica OK?
B: Yes, that's fine.
A: If you press this button, it will be in English. Let me know if you have any questions.
B: OK.
I bought it!
A: Oh, that's great! Enjoy your trip!
B: Thanks! Bye!
A: Bye!

B: Excuse me, I'm looking for some uniquely Japanese souvenirs, do you have any recommendations around here?
A: I don't know much about this place, but I'll do a search!
B: Thanks!
A: Well, how about food samples?
B: What's that?
A: They're plastic food replica.
A: Gimme a minute, I'll show you a picture now. Like this.
B: Oh, I see. What's this for?
A: I guess many people collect them to display at home, or use them as straps or something.
B: Oh, cute. where can I buy one?
A: I think from here it's about a 10-minute walk. It says that you can try your hand at making one.
B: Oh, that sounds fun. What's it called shop?
A: Ganso.
B: Gimme a minute. I'll google it.
A: Yup.
B: Here?
A: Yes, here!
B: Okay. I'll go try it!
A: Yeah!
B: And...
A: Huh?
B: I'm looking for a Japanese gift for my mother. Any recommendations on where to go?
A: In that case, how about where to sell furoshiki? Though I'm not sure if there are any stores around here.
B: What's furoshiki?
A: It's a quite traditional.
One minute.
Like this! It has Japanese patterns on it, so it's a good way to remember the Japan, right
B: Oh, I see, that looks good!
A: I just checked now and this store is nearby.
They sell furoshiki and handkerchiefs and stuff like that.
What do you think? Not too good?
B: No, it's pretty nice. Furoshiki, right?
A: Yes.
B: I'll put it on the list in my head.
A: A folding fan would be good too. I think it would make a good gift.
B: Oh, I see.
A: Also chopsticks would be good too.
B: Oh, chopsticks! Is there a place that sells chopsticks around here?
A: One minute.
Let's see, I found three stores. First, this one (showing his phone).
B: Yes.
A: And this one.
B: Yeah
A: And this one.
B: Sorry, can you show me again?
A: Sure. Here. Here. And here.
What do you think?
B: Hmm, I like these chopsticks.
A: This place is called Hashifuji.
B: Hashifuji, correct?
A: Right. And these two stores are called Hyozaemon and Takeya.
B: Okay, I'll make a note of my phone! Thank you.
A: There may not be anything that is uniquely Japan, but I think a store called Don Quixote would be interesting.
B: Don Quixote?
A: Yes. Each store may sell different things, but I think you can buy most things there if you go to the bigger stores.
B: Where is that?
A: Well, it's a minute walk from here!
B: Oh, really?
A: Oh, sorry, I made a mistake, it's the same station, but from this exit it's an 8-minute walk!
B: Oh, I see! But I'll go there!
Is it Don Quixote?
A: Yes, Don Quixote!
B: Ok. That was very helpful! Thank you so much!
A: You're welcome. Have fun!
B: Thanks!
A: Bye Bye.
B: Yup.

B: Excuse me, is there some kind of souvenir shop around here?
A: What kind of thing are you after?
B: Something to remind me of Japan.
A: Gimme a minute. I'll look it up right now.
B: Thank you.
A: Around here, there are a lot of sweets in the basement in this station, but they will be gone after you eat them, right?
B: Yes, I want something memorable.
A: Not really a souvenir, but there is a store called "Candu" in the basement of this station. It doesn't have anything uniquely Japanese, so if you have time, just go there once, handy things for daily life are sold for 110 yen. But it seems this store is kind of small, so I'm not sure if they have a great selection.
B: Oh, that’s good to know. I'll check it out. Where is the big store?
A: Let's see, Shibuya or Kinshicho. Well, Shibuya is closer from here.
B: Okay, I'll keep that in mind.
A: Also, near this station, there's a department store called Kitte might be nice. It has a variety of stores. Japanese patterned handkerchiefs would be good, like this. (showing his phone)
B: Oh, nice! What was it? Kitte?
A: Yeah, Kitte.
B: kitte. ok, where is it?
A: It's right outside the Marunouchi South Exit! It's this building! (showing his phone)
B: Ok, I'll go there. Thanks.
A: You're welcome. Have a nice day.

B: Excuse me, I'm looking for a place that sells kimonos. Do you know if there are any stores around here?
A: Oh, kimono, but I have no idea. I'll check now!
B: Thanks!
A: By the way, do you want a kimono instead of a yukata?
B: What's the difference?
A: Well, I'm not really sure too, but my impression is that a kimonos are a little more expensive. Also, I guess, kimonos were originally worn as clothing and is made of silk, so it is heavier and a little more luxurious and formal. And yukatas were originally worn after taking a bath, and because it is made of cotton, it is lightweight and is considered a casual kimono worn at festivals and things like that.
B: Oh, I see.
A: It looks like this, try compareing.
B: Oh, I see. Both are good, but I prefer the kimono.
A: I don't know exactly how much it costs, but I think buying it online is the cheapest way to get it. But would you like to see the real thing?
B: Yes, I want to see the real thing.
A: Ok! I'll see if there's a store near us!
B: Thanks!
A: Hmmm... It seems there are any around here, but if you take the train, I've got three stores in my search. This one is the closest one. I think they sell yukata too.
B: How far is it by train?
A: Well, oh, it's only one stop. You could probably walk there.
B: What's name of store?
A: Tokyo Kimono. Look the other stores. Here you go.
B: Thanks.
A: If you find one that looks good, I'll check out how to get there.
B: Thanks. Let me have a look.
A: Yup.
B: Hmm, this one looks good.
A: Which one? Oh, this is the one we were talking about earlier. I'll check if you can get there on foot.
B: Thanks.
A: It would take about 20 minutes on foot. But if you take the train, it might be about as much as walk, considering the distance from here to a station plus the distance from a station to the store. But if you walk, there is a possibility of getting lost, so the train is the easier way to get around. Which would you prefer?
B: Oh, well, I think I'll take the train.
A: Ok. Do you know the way to B station?
B: B station, right?
A: Yes!
B: I just got on the train earlier, so I know the way.
A: Oh, that's good. Then you'd better ask at the closest station from that store for directions to it, right?
B: Yes.
A: And if you have a kind of navigation app on your phone, I can give you the address.
B: Oh, yeah. I want to know the address.
A: Well, it's 000.

B: Excuse me, I'm looking to the men's clothing department. Do you know where it is.
A: I think you can find it either at Lumine or Marui.
B: What kind of store?
A: They are both shopping buildings.
Lumine is probably directly accessible from this station, so I think you should go to Lumine first. Marui is a shopping mall that you have to go outside once, but they are both right next to each other, so you can go there first or later.
B: I see. And they sell toys there?
A: Oh, I don't know. I'll check the floor guide.
B: Thanks!
A: Well, It's probably I don't think they have that, but I think you should take a look. Here's the Lumine floor guide. Here you go.
B: Oh, thank you.
A: Yup.
B: Oh, looks good.
A: Would you like to see the Marui floor guide too?
B: Yeah, I'd like to see it.

B: Excuse me, I need to get to the ferry terminal. Do you know where?
A: Oh, sorry, I have no idea, but I can ask the cab driver over there.
B: Oh, that would be great. Thanks.
A: The cab driver says there might be a bus, but he's not sure. If you're not in a hurry, I think the bus is cheaper and better, but if you are in a hurry and don't have time to look for a bus, I think a cab would be better.
B: Oh, I see. Well, okay. I'll look for a bus. Thank you very much.
A: Oh, I'll help you, if you'd like.
B: Oh, really?
A: Yes! I'm totally fine.
B: Thank you!

ーー20 minutes later
A: We can't find it, right?
B: Well, I'm sorry to make you help me, but I'm thinking I'll take a cab. Where’s the best place to get one?
A: Oh, I see! Then I think the place we just went to is good. In front of the station.
B: Ok! Thank you!
A: Well, do you think it's okay if I don't follow you?
B: Well, can I ask you to follow me just in case?
A: Okay! Wow, there are no cabs. Let's go take a look over road over there, and if they're not there, maybe we should call them on the app.
B: Okay.
A: Oh, a cab's coming from over there!! Hope they'll notice us. Oh, there's already people on board.
B: Oh.
A: I'll check the app to see if there's a cab nearby.
B: Thank you.
A: Oh, no. It says it will take 20-30 minutes. What do you want to do? Would you want me to call one now? Or wait?
B: Hmmm. I'll wait.
A: Got it. Oh, here comes the cab! Come on, look out for us!
B: Please!
A: Oh, he noticed, he stopped. Good for you!
B: Yeah, I'm lucky today. Thank you very much!
A: No problem at all! Have a nice day!
B: You too!
A: Bye!
B: Yeah.

B: Excuse me, do you know where you can get a ticket you can hop on and off anytime?
A: I'm not sure, but you might want to ask at the train station.
B: Okay, and do you know where that is?
A: I don't know the one here at the station, but most of the ticket windows are around the ticket gates, so I can venture a guess. Would you like me to take you there?
B: That would be very helpful.
A: Okay. Let's go.
B: Yes.

A: To Ueno?
B: Yes.
A: Hold on, I'll look it up right away. Well, in that case, this how to get there is the fastest and this how to get there is without transfers. (showing the app)

B: Excuse me, does this train stop at D station?
A: Well, one minute. No, this train doesn't stop at D station, but the next one does.
B: Oh, really, thank you.
A: You're welcome.
B: But why doesn't this one stop, but the next one does?
A: Well, this is a semi express, so your destination will be skipped. Next one is a local train. It stops at every station.
B: Oh, I see, thank you. I've learned.
A: You're welcome.

A: Sorry, I don't know much about trains here. If you want, I can look it up for you right away.

A: I'm sorry I can't help you.
B: No problem.

5 minutes later
A: Did you find the train?
B: No, actually not yet.
A: I just checked and it seems to leave from platform 11.
B: Oh! That's very helpful. Thank you very much.
A: No problem at all. Take care.
B: You too. Thanks, bye!

A: I have no idea. I've never been here. Should I check?

B: Oh, that's great! That's awesome.
A: Good for you.

A: I'm not sure, but I think it probably cost money.
B: How much?
A: I don't know, but I think it was a little over 1,000 yen.
B: One person?
A: Maybe.
B: Oh, I see. It's more than I thought.
A: I wanna see if it's worth more than 1,000 yen.

A: To Ueno?
B: Yes.
A: Ok. Let me search. Yes, this's right!
B: Also, is there a faster way than this train?
A: One minute. No. This train is the fastest one.
B: Ok! Thank you!
A: You're welcome.

B: Excuse me, I'd like to ask you something. I want to go to Tokyo Station, is this the right train?
A: To Tokyo station?
B: Yes
A: Ok, let me check. Yes, this's correct!
B: Can you also tell me the fastest way?
A: Let's see, the fastest way is to get off at Ueno and take the 7:48 a.m. train bound for Odawara on platform 7 of the JR Ueno Tokyo Line, but you have to be there in 7 minutes to get on. I think you can make it if you jog, but what do you want to?
B: Let me take notes.
A: Sure! The train to Odawara, platform 7 of the JR Ueno Tokyo Line, departing at 7:48.
B: Ok!
A: If you can't get on that train, ask someone else again!
B: Okay! Thank you!
A: You’re welcome.

30 minutes later
A: Here’s where you change trains.
B: Yes. Thanks. Have a nice day!
A: Good luck. You too!

B: How about next one?
A: 7:57.
B: I'll take the next one if it's the only that changes!
A: The next train is the JR Ueno Tokyo Line bound for Shinagawa leaving 7:52. It's rapid train.
B: Okay, and does that train stop at Akihabara?
A: No, it doesn't. The train that stops at Akihabara is the 7:55 a.m one, from platform 3. It's Yamanote line.
B: Ok, I'll take that one. Thanks!
A: You're welcome.

B: Excuse me, I'd like to ask you a few questions, I'd like to go to Tokyo station.
Do you know how to get there?
A: To Tokyo station?
B: Yes
A: Ok. Let me check.
Well... Do you prefer the fastest way? Or do you prefer the easy way with fewer transfers?
B: The easier way, please!
A: Then I think you would ride this platform 2 train for about 30 minutes and get off at Ueno. Then take the train leaving at 7:48 to Odawara from platform 7 of the JR Ueno Tokyo Line. If you can't get on that train, there's a possibility that it may not stop at Tokyo Station, so just in case, ask someone again.
B: Let me write it down just in case.
A: Sure! The train to Odawara, platform 7 of the JR Ueno Tokyo Line, departing at 7:48.
B: Is the train to Odawara, from platform 7 of the JR Ueno Tokyo Line, departing at 7:48. correct?
A: Yes! The JR Ueno Tokyo Line is the orange one. But be careful, not all lines are a different color. You can also rely on these signs, like this, or there're overhead. With the name of the route, how many meters are left, and the direction. Or you can also ask someone for help.
B: Got it!
A: Good luck!
B: Thank you so much!
A: No problem. Take care.
B: You too!
