When I was a kid living in the countryside, summer was very hot and we had no electricity.
The only way to cool down was a hand fan, which was made from the leaves of some kind of plant, I guess.
Since it was made of leaves, it was cheap and very light to hold, but it broke easily.
Every summer, families in the countryside would buy a few new hand fans, and it was common to see people waving a fan to fight the summer heat.
Behind my village, there was a woods where the tree canopies blocked out the sky, casting deep shade. So when the villagers had nothing to do, they loved to go to those woods to enjoy cooler moments.
Sometimes at night, villagers also loved to find a spot with a strong breeze and stay there to cool off.
I have air conditioners now, but I rarely use them because I don’t feel comfortable staying in a room with the air conditioner on for too long.
I prefer to be outside, feeling the natural wind, which is very comfortable.

In the last several days, I have been receiving an unusually high number of spam calls on my phone.
Thanks to an anti-nuisance call function, all of the spam calls were automatically blocked, but since they are shown as missed calls on my call list, I get fed up just seeing them.
Whenever I see an unknown number for the first time, I'll search it on Google and check where it's coming from.
Some are from Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
I never return phone calls from numbers that seem to be nuisance callers.

Puedes hablar conmigo y no te pasará nada malo. No puedo hacerlo.
No eres 'fulana A o B', eres Ximena."

(Please feel free to not only correct my (grammar) mistakes, but also to give me more suitable phrases / vocabulary. I need to improve my English to C1-level.)
Elephants have strong social connections. The females never leave their family herd. Unlike the male, they "move out" when they´re teenagers. They "move in" with other male elephants and build a "bachelor-herd". The calves get raised by their whole family: grandmothers, aunties, brothers, sisters and mother.
Furthermore, elephants communicate through two different ways. On the one hand they use sounds that we humans can hear. On the other hand they use infrasound, a low frequency sound. Infrasound can travel many kilometers, that leads to the fact that elephants can stay in contact within a long distance.
Evidence shows that elephants have feelings like grief. A clear example of this is a situation happened 1986 in Africa, where a man witnessed a sick calve an it´s mother. The calve was laying on the floor and the mother tried to help them. Later the day the calve died and the mother still stayed by the calves´ side. Other elephants tried to comfort the mother.
Elephants comfort each other. When one elephant is sad or grieving another tries to comfort them via body contact. This is similar to humans hugging.

In the second year of my technical secondary school, my classmates and I attended a tractor plowing practicum at a state-owned farm in another city, over 100 kilometers from our school.
The school hired a bus to take us there at the beginning of October.
The farm headquarters looked like a small village, with several workers' houses and a headquarters office.
The farm was different from where I grew up, where villages were densely clustered. There were no villages here—only endless fields as far as the eye could see.
Our task during this practicum was to drive Dongfanghong crawler tractors to plow the fields day and night. Of course, we took turns working in shifts.
When we took the night shift, we had a break at midnight and were served delicious mutton soup—something we always looked forward to.
The land was vast, the night pitch-black, and the tractor’s headlights extremely bright. With a veteran driver sitting beside me, I steered the tractor steadily forward, and all we could hear was the roar of the engine.
In the morning, a thin layer of mist hung over the fields, and morning glories, heavy with dewdrops, climbed over the fences around the workers' houses—such a beautiful idyllic scene.
We finished the practicum at the end of October and returned to our school. Since then, I haven’t had a chance to go back. I often wonder if everything there has changed a lot.

In the 1st century BC, the Romans invaded Gaul.
They naturally brought their own language, Latin, with them.
The Gauls soon embraced Latin.
From the 3rd century to the 6th century, the Franks gradually occupied the territory of Belgium and the northern part of present-day France.
Frankish was absorbed into the early French.
The grammatical genders of the French language were inherited from Latin.
The French language spread among the countries colonized by France.
How many Francophone countries are there in the world?
According to the data from the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), there are 29 countries where French is the official language.

When I was a child, my family had six people: my parents, my siblings, and me.
My father worked for the local government. He was from a farming family and started working for the local government in his late twenties because he had a better educational background than his peers.
My mom was from a relatively wealthy family in the town. Her family was later classified as "rich peasants," which was not considered a good family background in the People's Republic of China.
My mother made a living by farming, and so did my siblings and I.
My eldest brother joined the army after graduating from high school and was promoted to a cadre within three years.
My second oldest brother took over my father's position after graduating from middle school and worked in the local tobacco company.
My younger sister only studied up to middle school. After graduating, she had several temporary jobs before settling down in a collectively-owned mall.
I secured a government job due to my good performance in the middle school exit exam and have been working for the government to this day.
Now, my parents passed away years ago, and my siblings and I have grown old.
My eldest brother lives in Shanghai with his family, and so do my second oldest brother and his family. My younger sister lives in Hangzhou with her daughter, and I am the only one who still lives in my hometown with my family.
