Hand Fan

When I was a kid living in the countryside, summer was very hot and we had no electricity.

The only way to cool down was a hand fan, which was made from the leaves of some kind of plant, I guess.

Since it was made of leaves, it was cheap and very light to hold, but it broke easily.

Every summer, families in the countryside would buy a few new hand fans, and it was common to see people waving a fan to fight the summer heat.

Behind my village, there was a woods where the tree canopies blocked out the sky, casting deep shade. So when the villagers had nothing to do, they loved to go to those woods to enjoy cooler moments.

Sometimes at night, villagers also loved to find a spot with a strong breeze and stay there to cool off.

I have air conditioners now, but I rarely use them because I don’t feel comfortable staying in a room with the air conditioner on for too long.

I prefer to be outside, feeling the natural wind, which is very comfortable.
