If you say "I can run" it sounds like you're running on foot :P You can say "I ran the car" but usually this is accompanied with direction, distance, or time. "I ran the car into a ditch." "I ran the car for a few minutes." (This is implicitly talking about running (idling) the engine, but not actually moving) "I ran the car for miles." (Drove for a long distance, has a feeling of pushing the car to its limits) Omg, "run" has so many definitions...
