The things I surprised in the US

I used to live in the US two years ago.
My younger kid was a kindergarden student, then.
So I bought some art books to help my kid′s English improve.
We read them together.
Then I was so surprised.
Because many strange frases were there even if they were for young children!
For example,″awesome″,″What if〜?″,″Guess what?″etc...
I have never learned those frases when I was a student.
But maybe you neitive English speakers usually use those, don′t you?
So I thought I should read more books to speak it naturally.
