酵母の終焉

前は環境や政治が僕を不安にさせていた。森林が破壊されているし、豊かだった資源が少なくなっているので、恐れていた。でも、今年マーカス・アウレリウスの「Meditations」、黄檗、いろんな哲学についてのものを読んだ。最近、ビールを作る工程を考えた。その工程で、砂糖が入っている麦汁に酵母を入れる。そして、その酵母が繁殖して、繁殖して、「資源」の砂糖を尽くすまで講じが食べる。そして、なくなる。人間と同じじゃないかな。悪いことでもよいことでもないと思ってきた。

Yeast's Demise

Things like the environment and politics used to make me uneasy. I was a afraid of the forests being destroyed, once-common natural resources being depleted. But this year I read a variety of writings about philosophy, like Marcus Aurelius's "Mediations," and the teachings of Obaku. Recently, I was thinking about the process of making beer. In that process, yeast are added to sugary wort. Then the yeast multiply, and multiply more, until finally they deplete their "resource," sugar. And then they die. Not unlike, humans, huh? I've come to think of it as neither good, nor bad.
