Track and field is verylots of fun!

"Fun" is a noun, not an adjective, so you can't say "very" before it. I remember my mother correcting me on this point when I was a child. I would say "It was so fun" and she would say "So *much* fun."

If you say "is very fun", a significant number of people will think you don't know the language well, whereas if you say "is a lot of fun", no one will see a problem. If I were learning English, I'd want to know the version that would not make anyone think I was making a mistake.
