Could you please tell me why you change it to singular?
Usually we use the singular for economy. A town is one thing (or one group) so it has one economy. China has a powerful economy (singular), even though it is composed of many cities. The European Union has a developed economy, even though it is many different countries. The one exception is when you talk about economies as a group, like l, “many developing economies are suffering issues because of the recession”
