Time-free island

An Island where the exact time does not matter.

The residents of a Norwegian island decided that it doesn't matter what the exact time.


Sommaröy (Summer-Island) can be found in Norway, and here the sun does not set between 18th of May and 26th of July. 



350 people live on the Island and they think that there is no point in measuring the time, therefore they asked the Parliament in Oslo for abolishing the time.



So the island would be the first time-free zone in the world. The residents think since the island is sunny all day in the summer, the exact time is not important.



There is not too much point of speaking afternoon football, supper time or evening TV watching - said Kjell Ove Hveding, the inventor of the idea. 


According to Hveding on Sommaröy it is all the same what the time is, children can play football in the middle of the night, adults can do the gardening even at midnight, too. 


Because of the midnight sun it is unnecessary to use a watch - he said.

350-en élnek a szigeten, és azt gondolják, hogy nincs értelme mérni az időt, ezért petícióban kérték az oslói parlamenttől az „idő eltörlését”.

Így a sziget lenne a világ első időmentes zónája. A lakók azt gondolják, hogy mivel a szigeten nyaranta egész nap világos van, a pontos idő nem fontos.

Hveding szerint Sommaröyön mindegy, mennyi az idő, a gyerekek akár az éjszaka közepén is focizhatnak, a felnőttek pedig akár éjfélkor is kertészkedhetnek.
