Why I Carry Three Eco Bags

Plastic bags started to be charged at stores in Japan in 2020. Now they cost five to ten yen each, but it doesn’t bother me since I had already been carrying eco bags long before that. I think the habit of carrying bags is very convenient.

Bags really come in handy. Not only can you use them when shopping at a store or supermarket, but also for things like putting your jacket in during winter or carrying a bunch of books from the library. As for me, I usually keep two large eco bags and one smaller one in my backpack. It may sound like too many, but believe it or not, I sometimes use all three at once. Since they fold up small and are lightweight, they don’t cause any burden.

One problem, though, is that I never know when to wash them. They sometimes get a little wet when I buy frozen food or fish, but because they’re made of polyester, they dry quickly. Since I use them every day and always keep them in my backpack, washing them doesn’t easily come to mind.

Well done!! Eco bags are always handy to have wherever you go. Plus, they're fun to use when they have cute designs! lol

Eco bags and reusable bags are the same thing but for some reason we don't call them Eco bags in the US. Not sure about other parts of the world, but for US English I'd go with "reusable"

Get 3 more, keep them in the genkan and swap them from your backpack/bag and wash weekly. ;)

Thank you for letting me know that in the U.S., they say “reusable bag” instead of “eco bag.” Wow, you’re a genius! Though I might forget to take the used ones to the washing machine and leave them in the genkan forever! lol

That's a different problem to solve. Hopefully you do other laundry and will find them before you need them LOL

Why I Carry Three Eco Bags (Reusable Shopping Bags)(エコバッグを3つ持ち歩く理由)

I usually see them called “reusable shopping bags” in the US, but maybe they’re called “eco bags” in some other English-speaking country.

“Bunch” is OK, but “a stack of books” is more idiomatic.

I’ve been using reusable cloth bags for a long time, too. I have several, and I try to always use a specific one for meat & fish, so the others don’t get as dirty. I wash my “meat & fish” bag fairly often—it’s machine washable so I wash it with other laundry. But I have to admit that I have no idea when I last washed the others. 🙀🙂

Thank you! It's neat that you use a bag specifically for meat and fish. I’m the kind of person who usually can’t stick to rules like that, but I might as well give it a try.
