Sorry, I don't understand "take up" in this context? Do you mean these Chinese, English, etc. teachers will teach you calligraphy when the calligraphy teacher is sick? Or will they teach their own subjects during the class period when you would normally study calligraphy?

Besides that, we have to practice our Chinese and English handwriting every day by using copybooks (字帖) in preparation for exams.

"Every day" (two words) does not meant the same thing as "everyday" (one word).

BThis is because if our handwriting is too bad, the computer won't be able to scan it clearly, and then the teachers cawon't identifybe able to read / decipher what we wrote whichand will leagive us bad grades.

I had a little bit of trouble with the meaning of this sentence. I think you're saying that other teachers can take the time that would normally be for calligraphy class? This isn't something that happens in US schools as far as I recall which is probably the source of my confusion. I made changes with this assumption in mind. I also think listing out all of the different kinds of teachers is unnecessary if you end with "any teacher" so I shortened it a bit to be more concise.

Because if our handwriting is too bad, the computer won't be able to scan it clearly, then. Then the teachers can't identify what we wrote which will leave usresult in bad grades.
