White Christmas

“When I passed through the tunnel, there was a snowy country.” is the opening line of a famous novel by Yasunari Kawabata.
As he said, I was tempted to say that “When I opened curtains, there was a snowy country.”
When I got up this morning, it snowed 15cm (about 6 inches) hight.
I was surprised because the roads around our house and the roofs of my neighbor's houses were all white.
It was white Christmas.
Merry Christmas!

Comma not full stop

AJust as he said, today I was tempted to say that, “When I opened the curtains, there was a snowy country.”

'today' gives it a bit more context. For 'curtains' use the article, 'the curtains'.

When I got up this morning, it had snowed 15cm (about 6 inches) hight.

'Had snowed' as action has happened. We tend to use 'high' not 'height' when referring to snow.

I was surprised because the roads around our house and the roofs of my neighbor's houses were all white.

It was a white Christmas.

Need the article 'a'

“When I passed through the tunnel, there was a snowy country.” is the opening line of a famous novel by Yasunari Kawabata.

You don’t put a period at the end of the quote unless you are starting a new sentence. For example you could also say:

“When I passed through the tunnel, there was a snowy country.” This is the opening line of a famous novel by Yasunari Kawabata.

As In the saidme way, I was tempted to say that “When I opened the curtains, there was a snowy country.”

Another way to say this would be:

This morning, I was tempted to say the same thing. “When I opened the curtains, there was a snowy country.”
