I have been an Amazon subscriber for a long time. One of the benefits I have enjoyed is Amazon Prime Video, which streams dramas and movies.
Starting this year, however, they began inserting commercial clips into the shows. At first, I thought I could simply mute them, and that is what I did for a few months.
The other day, though, they inserted as many as three commercial breaks into a single 60-minute drama. Each lasted more than a minute and a half, which felt less like a break and more like a hostage situation. Muting them every time turned out to be more annoying than I expected. Eventually, I developed the habit of doing something else during the commercials, but that backfired. Often I would not make it back in time before the show resumed.
When that happened, I would rewind to catch what I missed, only to be forced to watch the same commercial again from the start. After that happened several times, I gave up muting altogether and just let the ads play. Then, the catchy commercial songs got stuck in my head, and I could not shake them off. I started wondering, "What am I even doing with my time?"
The ad-free plan costs 390 yen per month. I realized my peace of mind is worth much more than that and should take priority. So I caved. I subscribed. Watching without interruptions is simply far more comfortable.
Of course, it is frustrating to have to pay for something that used to be free. But really, what choice do I have? I will probably keep paying for this service for a long time to come.

Well done! I can relate. Ever since I subscribed to YouTube Premium, it's hard to go back to YouTube with ads!
