Villarrica Geophysics Deployment Part 2/2

In this post I'm going to write the second part about the geophysic deployment in Villarrica.

The scientific team that deployed the instruments was composed by five people, in which three of them work in Carnegie Institution for Science, located in Washington DC. About the others, one was an electrical engineer, and the other was a girl who was completing her PhD thesis. On the other hand, my partner and I were there as assistants for the deployment.

Among the group from Carnegie, was the team leader, Hélene Le Mevel, who is vulcanologist and currently is working (remotely) with data obtained from a gravimeter deployed in the summit. She with two people from Carnegie who came to Chile in February, they deployed a multigas station, a GPS antenna and a seismometer in the summit to collecting as much information as possible about the variations in magma and / or gas inside the volcano and being able to model its behavior.

Diana and Kathleen are the other people who work at the institute. Diana deployed ten seismometers around the volcano and Kathleen deployed three infrasound stations on the slopes of the volcano. This instruments besides those installed at the summit allows the scientific team to have enough information to create models of behavior and to see increases or decreases in volcanic activity.

Danielle who was doing her PhD thesis, she brought a drone which takes ash and gas samples that coming out from the crater, and then she took the samples to a lab for detailed analysis and John helped with the installation of batteries for the operation of all the deployment.

For our part, with my partner we supported Hélène with the installation of her gravimeter and with the installation of the seismometers as they needed to be connected and calibrated to receive the information correctly.

Volcanology is a very specialized and entertaining area, I had the opportunity to learn many things and remember some I had forgotten from my undergraduate studies. I would love to go back to the volcano one day, after the quarantine is over :(

I think that I write too much. I may take up this topic again later and approach it from another perspective, to tell about our stay near the volcano, some anecdote, etc.

Thank you for read ! and take care :)

Villarrica Geophysics Deployment Part 2/2

In this post I'm going to write the second part about the geophysics deployment inat Villarrica.

I am assuming that you are referring to the volcano and not to the city. If you're referring to a specific site, "at" is often usually more appropriate. For example: "the eruption at Mount St. Helens"

The scientific team that deployed the instruments was composed byof five people, in which three of thewhom work inat the Carnegie Institution for Science, located in Washington DC.

AboutOf the others, one was an electrical engineer, and the other was a girl who was completing her PhD thesis.

On the other handAdditionally, my partner and I were there as assistants for the deployment.

"On the other hand" is used to express an idea that is in opposition to what has been previous said.

Among the group from Carnegie, was the team leader, Héleène Le Mevel, who isa vulcanologist andwho is currently is working (remotely) with data obtained from a gravimeter deployed inat the summit.

Better phrasing. The parallel structure "who is + noun + is working" doesn't sound good to me because the two instances of "is" don't have the same function per se.

She came with two other people from Carnegie who came to Chile in February, t. They deployed a multi-gas station, a GPS antenna and a seismometer inat the summit to collecting as much information as possible about the variations in magma and / or gas inside the volcano and beingto be able to model its behavior.

Subject repetition may be acceptable in certain informal spoken situations, but it's not encouraged.

I added "other" to make it clearer that they're from the same group.

Diana and Kathleen are the other people who work at the iInstitute.

Diana deployed ten seismometers around the volcano and Kathleen deployed three infrasound stations on the slopes of the volcano.

Thisese instruments besides, along with those installed at the summit, allows the scientific team to have enough information to create models of behavior and to see increases or decreases in volcanic activity.

"Besides" implies that what it modifies (here, "those installed at the summit") doesn't participate in the action.

Danielle, who was doing her PhD thesis, she brought a drone which takesook ash and gas samples that coming oute from the crater, and then she took the samples to a lab for detailed analysis and. John helped with the installation of batteries for the operation of all the deployment.

The sentence was getting long and was focused on Danielle, so I started a new one for the part about John.

For our part, with my partner weand I supported Hélène with the installation of her gravimeter, and with the installation ofs well as with the seismometers as they needed to be connected and calibrated to receive the information correctly.

Volcanology is a very specialized and eintertainesting area, of study. I had the opportunity to learn many thingsuch and remember somethings I had forgotten from my undergraduate studies.

"Area" is grammatical and understandable, but doesn't sound as idiomatic to me in this specific situation if it isn't attached to anything. "Subject" or "field" would also work though.

"Remember some" isn't correct. You could change it to "remember some things," but that would sound repetitive, so I've changed "learn many things" to "learn much."

I would love to go back to the volcano one day, after the quarantine is over :(

I think that I write too much.

This is grammatically correct, but "I am writing too much" or "I have written too much" may be better. "I write too much" refers more to your writing habits in general.

Thank you for read ing!

and take care :)

"Entertaining" doesn't sound right here to me. You'd generally call movies or TV shows "entertaining" and academic things "interesting".
