Intelligent could be a gift or poison.

A saying from mother:" Rather have an intelligent son, than born a stupid one". Her words had influenced me for a long time. In my childhood, my gift doesn't approve I guess. So that had not any senior praise me. I comforted myself. I am not stupid. I am just not that kind of smart compared with the genius. But my aunt said that I look retarded when I was young. I have to admit I still angry about what she said. Even if I know she doesn't mean that I just don't look smart. After I turned to 20 and with a lot of experience, I am starting to glad I don't belong to a smart one. That could be a kind of gift.

This is the paragraph of my personal reflection. please help me check my grammar. thank you very much.

After INow that I have turned to 20 and with a lot of experience, I a'm starting to be glad I don't belong to a smart one.

"a smart one" ---> what is the "one" in this sentence? I would add that because it's not so clear.

I comforted myself.

I am not stupid.

But my aunt said that I look retarded when I was young.

I have to admit I still angry about what she said.

That could be a kind of gift.

It is a kind of gift from God I thought.

I a'm not stupid. I'm not stupid.

I am is correct, but "I'm" is a little more conversational sounding. You can add contractions like this to help sound more natural.

I am just not that kind of smart compared with the genius.

I am just not that kind of smart compared with thea genius. I am just not that smart compared with a genius.

the genius = one specific person a genius = any person who is a genius

After I turned to 20 and with a lot of experience, I am starting to glad I don't belong to a smart one.

After I turned to 20 and withhad a lot of experience, I am starting to glad I don't belong toed to be glad I am not a smart persone. After I turned 20 and had a lot of experience, I am started to be glad I am not a smart person.

First clause is past tense but second clause is present tense. Try not to switch between tenses mid-sentence, it's very difficult. Even native children are taught in school not to switch tenses mid-sentence. I have changed it to be all PAST-tense. In all PRESENT-tense it would be: "Now that I have turned 20 and have a lot of experience, I am starting to be glad I am not a smart person" "to belong" is not the right verb. "to be" is better: "He IS a smart person", "They ARE smart people", "You ARE so smart" etc.

After INow that I have turned to 20 and with a lot of experience, I a'm starting to be glad I don't belong to a smart one. Now that I have turned 20 and with a lot of experience, I'm starting to be glad I don't belong to a smart one.

Even if I know she doesn't mean that I just don't look smart.

Even if I know she doesn't meant that I just don't look smart. Even if I know she meant that I just don't look smart.

The second "don't" makes this negative already. No need for "doesn't" as well.

Even if I know she doesn't means that I just don't look smart. Even if I know she means that I just don't look smart.

That could be a kind of gift.
