A Thought on Learning English

After learning English for so long, I've come to realize that the most difficult part of learning English is listening.

When I read, I feel very relaxed. If I meet some new words, I just look them up in my dictionary; I don't need to be in a rush.

When I write in English, I can also write in no hurry. If I don't know how to make a sentence, I can use my native language to ask an AI app for help, and finally I manage it.

When I try to speak in English, I still feel okay although I speak very slowly. Whenever I have difficulty in phrasing a sentence, I can ask an AI app for help too, so although I speak slowly, I can speak anyway.

When I do the three things mentioned above, I don't have much pressure because I am the one who controls the whole process, so I don't need to be in a rush.

Nevertheless, listening is really a big problem. When I listen to English teachers, I find it pretty easy, as long as there are no new words. But when I listen to real English conversations in life, it's like I've never learned English.

They speak too fast to follow. They slur many words together, and sometimes it sounds like they omit some words.

The pronunciation of the words they are saying is totally different from how the words should be pronounced according to their phonetic symbols.

What's more, once I come across a word that I can't understand, I always stop at that word and try hard to figure it out, but in the meantime, the audio or conversations still keep going—they won't wait for me, and I always end up neither being able to figure that word out nor keeping up with the audio or conversations.

This is the biggest problem—unlike when I do reading, writing or speaking.

Do you have the same feeling if you are also learning a second language?

I think you can replace the period/full stop (.) with an exclamation point (!) to add emphasis
