Even in the beginning of the trip, when you plan where to go, it is not you but the place that always decides how the trip goes, and you cannot ignore where the place tells you to go.

The grammar is nearly perfect. I would however try to use more interesting verbs/vocabulary than just "to go". For example for movement: wander, travel, explore, walk, move.
And for something happening: occur, come to pass, take place, happen.
