The internet has become a necessary thing in people’s lives. According to Ofcom, in April 2020, the British spent 4 hours on the internet every day. Compared with what they did in April 2019, it was 30 minutes longer. Now things we can do on the internet are getting more and more. For example, working, shopping, watching videos and playing games. The Internet has many benefits. For instance, we can send and receive emails and chat with family and friends. There is also plenty of information on the internet, so we can study, read ebooks and listen to music. Recently, people think shopping online is cheap and has various choices. Although the internet has a lot of advantages, it also has some disadvantages. For example, some people, especially young people and children, spend too much time on the internet and are addicted. Apart from that, children can communicate with people online, but sometimes, they will be bullied. Although the internet has disadvantages, it is still very useful and changes our lives every day.
Translation Practice
The internet has become a necessary thingity in people’s lives.
"necessity" is a word with the same meaning as "necessary thing" and sounds more natural here.
According to Ofcom, in April 2020, the British spent 4 hours on the internet every day.
Compared with what they did in April 2019, ithis was 30 minutes longermore per day.
You could also shorten it to "Compared with April 2019, this was 30 minutes more per day." There is nothing wrong with "Compared with what they did", but the "what they did" isn't really needed.
Now things we can do on the internet are getting more and more.more and more things on the internet.
If you want to keep the phrase "more and more", you should swap the sentence round as above. When you are talking about things growing in number, it doesn't sound right to say "things are getting more and more". However, it is okay to say "There are more and more things"...I'm not sure why!
For example, working, shopping, watching videos and playing games.
The Internet has many benefits.
For instance, we can send and receive emails and chat with family and friends.
There is also plenty of information on the internet, so we can study, read ebooks and listen to music.
Recently, pPeople think shopping online is cheap and haoffers various choices.
I have deleted the word "recently" as it confuses the sentence a bit - it usually suggests something that belongs to the recent past. However I'm not sure what to replace it with. Here are some more options - the choice would depend on the meaning of the original sentence:
"People nowadays think shopping online is cheap and offers various choices." ("Nowadays" means in the present time)
"According to recent studies, people think shopping online is cheap and offers various choices."
