On Monday I went to a welcome event for new master's degree students. I am going to start studying economics, which will be a very interesting and difficult experience, not only because I will have to study and work at the same time (something I haven't done before), but also because it will be an academic challenge. I majored in something entirely different, so I have to work harder because my math skills are poor. However, I feel that I have to make some kind of impact in the discipline. At that event, I confirmed that academia is not looking to solve our current problems as a society. Instead, they prefer to keep asking and answering the same useless questions in economics. They showed us a video where some prestigious economists mainly justify that although they acknowledge the deficiencies in the discipline, it is what we have, and we don't have alternatives. That abstracting the reality to the point that it is completely far away from what we experience is a sacrifice that has to be made. Furthermore, there was no mention of ideologies and who benefits from these ideologies. Something I have learned, and I completely agree, is that economics is not neutral, and the huge inequality and environmental problems we experience are in part due to the mainstream approach in economics. The big question is to whom this ideology/approach (I know there is a difference, but I am sorry) benefits and what consequences we will have to face if there is no change. I am concerned that in such a prestigious and terribly expensive university, they are not asking these questions. I am deeply worried about the future, not only for my country but for the world.

Including "degree" here is not necessary, but your sentence is also correct, just a bit more formal :)

I majored in something entirely different, so I have to work even harder because my math skills are poor.
Your sentence is perfect, but adding "either" will help emphasize the difficulty due to your original major.
Instead, they prefer to keep asking and answering the same useless questions in economiceconomics questions.

Your sentence is perfect, adding "current" just helps tie the sentence back to the approach you previously discussed.
The big question is to whom this ideology/approach (I know there is a difference, but I am sorry) benefits and what consequences we will have to face if there is no change.
I would use "ideology" here, as "approach" is more neutral and less tied towards bestowing an advantage on someone.
I am concerned that in such a prestigious and terribly expensive university, they are not asking these questions.

Feedback
Your English is excellent, pretty much on par with a native speaker! The suggestions I made are pretty much all optional. I'm glad you're critically examining the merits of this program, and your sentiments are completely relatable.
