Things that Are Useless

When Iwas in middle school I loved painting. My favorite artists in that time was Da Vinci, Miguel Angel, Van Gogh and Picasso. I used to dream in creating my own painting techniques and my own style, but people used to say me things like: "Anybody can paint" "Painting is useless" "Nobody cares about painting". And when I started high school I began to do things "less useless" like math, mechanic, cooking, studying english, music and writing. I had lost my ability and motivation for drawing and painting and sometimes I felt sad because my future was very dull for me. But at the end of highschool I realized that you don´t need to obtain a benefit from something or somebody whom you love. Music is "useless" but you can express your feelings through music or feel alive when you listen to your favorite song and if you have dicipline and passion, you can be a greatest musician. Read fictional books wouldn't save your from death or gain money but you cry when you read your favorite stories. Anybody can write haiku, even a child can write a beatiful haiku, but if you try writing a haiku, nobody will can write a haiku in the same way like you, this applies for drawing, writing, painting, mathematics, etc. You're special and everything that you do is special. Yes, maybe you can't gain enough money from something that you love but you can always do it in your free time, you don't need to be famous to do something unique, or try to grow a career. If you're happy when you do something that you like, then isn't useless.

My first painting after three years is about a sunrise with a Van Gogh style. I don't want to drop out this time, I'm still young so I have time to become in a better artist.

This haiku is inspired in a song of The Beattles:
After the long night
Here comes the sun ready to shine,
Ready to start again.

And this is a senryu, another kind of haiku that is about feelings and usually about love:
Every day and night
My love for you smell like spring
Even in winter

"Drop out" is more used for schools or a formal setting. For example, he dropped out of school and decided to work part-time.

If it's a hobby and something that is not at an institution, English speakers tend to use "quit." For example, he quit drawing, or he quit listening to music.

I agree with your outlook on "useless" things! Even if something doesn't help you grow your career or earn you money, it lets you relax and have fun.

Great work!
