The wonderful wonderfullness of the manu-manu

Today is a "migraine day" and I was earlier lying in bed, unable to sleep because of the pain. I was scrutating my hand, bored as hell, when it reminded me of the manu-manu.

The manu-manu is a creature invented by Fred in his wonderful Comic book series " Philemon". Me and my brother read that constantely in our childhood. The stories are about a teenager who lives adventures in magic worlds and meets all sort of fantasist characters. In one of them, he befriends a manu-manu.

This creature is simply a hand. Yes, yes...Just a full dark blue hand, without a wrist, of the size of horse or a small asian elefant. His behavior is the one of a nice tamed animal, that cannot talk but follows, helps and also likes to cuddle. The middle finger pictures (figures?) the long neck and head. He can run very fast on his four resting fingers that form the legs. To sleep, he can roll into a ball like a cat. To defend itself, only if he absolutely have to, he's able to transform into a fist and punch the enemies.

During long car trips, me and my brother played manu-manus stories to keep us occupied and entertain our little sister. No need for any toys of any sort. When one think about it, it's absolutely wonderful how expressive a hand can be. It's a wonderful piece of machinery! In some cultures, hands are all part of the talking process and of course, they allows the gestures langages of non-hearing people all over the world. Also, drawing hands is a very difficult but classic exercise for artists.

So here is my piece of advice : if you have the luck to still have one or two hands at the tip of your arms, treasure it! They keep you company at every moment and may have a manu-manu's soul.
