The way this website works is new for me

I'm writing my fifth post here. This website is not the first one I've used to give and receive corrections for our writing in a foreign language but the system that is used here to balance the trade of corrections between users is new for me.

If I've understood well, I can't post a new text if I haven't corrected at least half of the quantity of corrections I've received so far. That's why we all are bond to correct posts that have already been corrected. That's why we generally receive more than one correction for the same post. And I must confess that I really appreciate that. It's really interesting to compare the different corrections and read the different comments. When the correcters all agree about something, reading several times the same correction with the same comment but phrased differently helps a lot to understand and remember it. When they don't agree, I mean when someone corrects a thing that was not corrected by another one, I deduce that the mistake is less important. In short, the grade of similarity between the different corrections give a clue about the grade of importance of the mistake and helps to memorize it.

The other side of the coin is that you need to correct a certain quantity of posts so that you can post your own. So if you want to challenge yourself with a streak, don't start writing at 23:30 because you might ¿discover/find out? that you first need to correct thirty sentences before you can write your own text!

I'm writing my fifth post here.

This website is not the first one I've used to give and receive corrections for our writing in a foreign language, but the system that is used here to balance the trade of corrections between users is new for me.

If I've understood well, I can't post a new text if I haven't corrected at least half of the quantity of corrections I've received so far.

That's why we all are bound to correct posts that have already been corrected.

In short, the graddegree of similarity between the different corrections give as clues about the graddegree of importance (OR severity) of the mistake, and helps to memorize it.

The other side of the coin is that you need to correct a certain quantity of posts so that you can post your own.

So if you want to challenge yourself with a streak, don't start writing at 23:30 because you might ¿discover/find out?

that you first need to correct thirty sentences before you can write your own text!

Feedback

That's true! This system is quite nice in that way. Once you get to the thousands of corrections received/given, the system becomes a lot more lenient, as it takes more to tip your ratio to that side of not being able to post anything.

Thank you very much for your corrections.
I’m not sure if I understand when you say “it takes more to tip your ratio to that side of (…)”. I guess it means that we need a lower ratio for being allowed to post, right?

It more so means that you are able to post more without correcting, as your ratio percent doesn’t decrease that much the larger both sides are

Thanks a lot! Very interesting suggestions.

I'm writing my fifth post here.

This website is not the first one I've used to give and receive corrections for our writing in a foreign language but the system that is used here to balance the trade of corrections between users is new for me.

Or maybe "balance the tradeoff of corrections"

If I've understood it well, I can't post a new text if I haven't corrected at least half of the quantity of corrections I've received so far.

That's why we all are bound to correct posts that have already been corrected.

TAnd that's why we generally receive more than one correction for the same post.

Or some other transition. People may say you shouldn't start a sentence with "and," but native speakers do it all the time. "Additionally" would also work to avoid starting with And.

Either, but find out is more common.

that you first need to correct thirty sentences before you can write your own text!

Great text! I agree it's nice to compare corrections, but also keep in mind that there may be dialectal differences, too!

You're right.
Thanks a lot.

Both can be correct; however, in this context, "new to me" is more fitting

Where you have used "grade" you could use "level" instead
And apart from "indicates" you could've also said "points to"

The other side of the coin is that you need to correct a certain quantitynumber of posts so that you can post your own.

It's a bit more natural to say "number" instead of "quantity" here

So if you want to challenge yourself with a streak, don't start writing at 23:30 because you might ¿discover/find out?

Both "discover" and "find out" are equally correct :)

that you first need to correct thirty sentences before you can write your own text!

Excellent writing! You made some very apt observations. I'm also a fan of this platform's system.

I'm writing my fifth post here.

This website is not the first one I've used to give and receive corrections for our writingtexts in a foreign language but the system that is used here to balance the tradinterchange of corrections between users is new for me.

"trade" feels slightly odd here, I'll be honest, I am not totally sure why. I think perhaps, outside of a commercial transaction ("I traded my iPhone for an Android") it has kind of negative connotations ("they traded blows for a while before the police arrived").

If I've understood wellcorrectly, I can't post a new text if I haven't corrected at least half of the quantity of corrections I've received so far.

That's why we all arere all bound to correct posts that have already been corrected.

That's why we generally receive more than one correction for the same post.

And I must confess that I really appreciate that.

Nothing strictly wrong with "I must confess", but it feels a little bit inappropriate in this context, because usually it is used for something you are not proud of.

For example: "I am glad you like my text, but I must confess, I copied the whole thing from my friend."

Perhaps you could say:

"And I have to say, I really appreciate that."

It's really interesting to compare the different corrections and read the different comments.

When the correcters all agree about something, reading several times the same correction several times with the same comment but phrased differently helps a lot to understand and remember it.

When they don't agree, I mean when someone corrects a thing that was not corrected by another persone, I deduce that the mistake is less important.

"another one" is really for non-living things

"I ate one cake and then, when no-one was looking, I ate another one."

In short, the gradelevel of similarity between the different corrections gives a clue about the gradelevel of importance of the mistake and helps to memorize it.

"grade" is not incorrect, but it is much less common in this sort of context.

The other side of the coin is that you need to correct a certain quantity of posts so that you can post your own.

nice use of "other side of the coin" !

you can also say "on the flipside"

Great text! It is completely understandable and fluent. My only real corrections are slight tweaks in style to make it sound more "native" but they are not at all neccessary.

I agree with your point of view as well. I too find it very reassuring when I receive the same correction multiple times.

On the flipside, I also feel reassured when I make a correction and another native speaker makes the same correction :-)

Haha! So far I haven't read another person's correction for a text I corrected too. I think I want to avoid comparison so that I feel freer with my comments. And I hope the persons who correct my posts do feel totally free to say what they feel.

Any way, thanks a lot for your corrections.
