The Smell of Books

The smell of books brings me a sense of contentment.
Do you know the smell of English books is different from that of Mandarin books?
I believe it is because they are printed on different types of paper; English paperbacks are usually printed on light yellow paper, while Mandarin books are printed on pure white paper.
Recently I bought the English book, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and I was surprised by how light it is compared to its thickness. If it were a Mandarin book, it would be much heavier. I wonder why books are printed differently in different countries.
