The Smell of Books

The smell of books brings me a sense of contentment.
Do you know the smell of English books is different from that of Mandarin books?
I believe it is because they are printed on different types of paper; English paperbacks are usually printed on light yellow paper, while Mandarin books are printed on pure white paper.
Recently I bought the English book, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and I was surprised by how light it is compared to its thickness. If it were a Mandarin book, it would be much heavier. I wonder why books are printed differently in different countries.

That's an interesting observation. I noticed that when I saw a Mandarin book of Dune.

I always thought it was the type of paper and where the wood is from. For example, when... some things happened... there was a huge card and manga shortage for a while. That was when I found out much of Japanese paper comes from Russian wood.

TheALSO POSSIBLE: The distinct smell of books brings me a sense of contentment to me.

(The original is also possible.)

Do you know the smell of/scent of most English books is differents from (that of) most Mandarin books?

ALSO POSSIBLE: Many English have a different scent than Mandarin books? [NOTE: This version feels smoother to me.]

I believe itALSO POSSIBLE: Perhaps this is because they are printed on different types of paper; English paperbacks are usually printed on light yellow paper, while Mandarin books are printed on purebleached white paper.

Recently I bought the English book, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and I was surprised by how light it is/was compared to its thickness.

NOTE: Personally, I think"....how light it was" is a better choice than "....how light it is" since the rest of this sentence is in the PAST TENSE.

If it were aALSO POSSIBLE: Had it been in Mandarin book, it would behave been much heavier.

ONE GUESS: Economics factors exist. Different types of wood are used to make paper pulp are used parts of the world. In some library, there is a preference for "acid-free" paper. Cheap paper often has much acid in it, and it decays (and turns yellow) more quickly than "acid-free" paper.
