The Reason I Read Books

I read books mostly to gain knowledge and for entertainment. Textbooks are full of useful information, while novels and essays provide a relaxing and enjoyable pastime. I have never felt that reading a book is a waste of time.

Recently, I realized a third reason for reading: the calming effect books have. Many unreasonable and sad events happen in the world, even in my own life. Books show us how we can handle these challenges. Genres like business, self-help, and sociology are especially effective in this regard. Although no book can provide a tailor-made solution to each personal problem, they teach us what kind of stance we can take to face difficulties. This gives us courage, helps us look at issues objectively, and can even lighten our burdens for a while.

As an adult, I try to keep a positive mood, but it is not always easy. Reading helps tune my mind. When I feel isolated, I read alone. Gradually, I realize that I am not truly alone.

Thank you! I probably don’t expect much from a book. Even finding just one new thing is enough. :D

I mostly read books mostly to gainfor knowledge and for entertainment.

This is a mostly simplistic and stylistic correction on my end, but feel free to ignore this if you want.

Instead of "sad", I might personally opt for "tragic", which is more intense and hence effective in conveying the emotion. I find that "tragic" also provides a better sense of rhythm to the sentence.

Thank you. Right, ”tragic events” sounds better than "sad events." I got it.

As an adult, I try to keep a positive mood, but it is not always easy.
