The Memory

Back in 1990, my wife and I were both in our twenties. We earned a small salary-monthly paid was only tens of RMB.

It was also the second year after we married and the year that we had our only son.

In the morning on the 19th of December in 1990, my wife told me that she had a pain in her belly and she felt like she was going to give birth.

She required me to cycle her to the women and children's hospital in the city we live in. Because of the bad roads, we had to stop for a little while a few times when she couldn’t withstand the pain.

Fortunately, she didn’t give birth on the way to the hospital. She gave birth in the afternoon in the hospital that day.

I remember a building with two or three floors in the south of the hospital and went from east to west. We were like staying in a room on the second floor in the western corner of the building.

Decades ago, the weather was much colder than now, and people still used coal ball stoves to warm their wards. That was totally different from what you see nowadays in a hospital.

Time flies. My son already has his daughter now and the hospital is also reconstructed in a new location with a large, modern and beautiful appearance. Most importantly, I finally became an old man.

This is more natural in the US.

Back in 1990, my wife and I were both in our twenties.

We earned a small salary- monthly paidwhich was only tens of RMB.

It was also the second year after we married and the year that we had our only son.

In tThe morning onf the 19th of December in 1990, my wife told me that she had afelt pain in her belly and she felt likeas if she wasere going to give birth.

She required me to had me transport her via bicycle her to the women and children's hospital in the city we live in.

It's unlikely that you'd ride with your pregnant wife on your bicycle to a city in which you didn't live so I deleted that part of the sentence.

or

- She had me transport her via bicycle to the local women and children's hospital.
- I had to carry her on my bicycle to the women and children's hospital.

Because of the bad roads, we had to stop for a little while a few times when she couldn’t withstand the pain.

Fortunately, she didn’t give birth on the way to the hospital.

This is okay, too, since you already mentioned that you two were on your way to the hospital.

She gave birth in the afternoon in the hospital that day.

I remember a building with two or three floors in the south of the hospital and it went from east to west.

We were like staying in a room on the second floor in the western corner of the building.

"like" here is slang so I deleted it.

Decades ago, the weather was much colder than now, and peopleit is now so hospitals still used coal ball stoves to warm their wards.

That was totally different from what you see nowadays in a hospitals.

Since you used people (which I changed to hospitals) plural in the previous sentence, we should maintain parallel construction in this sentence.

Time flies.

My son already has his daughter now and the hospital is also has been reconstructed in a new location with a large, modern and beautiful appearance.

Most importantly, I finally became an old man.

ThaIt was totally different from what you would see nowadays in a hospital.

'It was totally different from what you see nowadays in a hospital.' is also right.
