I have known about the Great Wall since I was young, but I didn’t know the details about it, such as: How many was its length? Where did it start and end?
When I traveled to the Shanhai Pass yesterday afternoon, I was lucky to know the aforementioned questions.
The Great Wall is a little more than 21000 kilometers. It starts from the east part of China and ends in the west part of China.
The start point of it is called Laolongtou, which sticks into the Bo Sea near Shanhai Pass District. It ends at the Jiayu Pass in Gansu Province.
There are many different Passes on the Great Wall (Each Pass is in fact a beacon tower for war), but the most famous three are Shanhai Pass(the first Pass of the Great Wall), the Jurong Pass in the Beijing area, and the Jiayu Pass in Gansu Province (the last Pass of the Great Wall, also the end point of the Great Wall).
I climbed the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing during this trip. It was built along the Yan mountain peaks. It is wide, high and precipitous. I was shocked when I imagined how hard it would be to build the Great Wall in ancient times.

When I climbed the Great Wall at Badaling in 2007, I had similar thoughts to yours: it would’ve been hard to build with modern machinery, and must’ve been incredibly hard in ancient times.

The Great Wall of China
I have known about the Great Wall of China since I was young, but I didn’t know themany details about ithe wall, such as: How many was; its length?.
you could also say; I have been aware of the Great Wall of China since childhood, but lacked knowledge regarding its specifics like its length. (to sound more professional) I've also replaced 'The Great wall' with 'The Great Wall of China' for more clarity.

You can shorten the sentence by using 'ends in the west.' instead of ' ends in the west part of China.' to shorten the sentence but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's wrong.
