The flower of summer
Which kind of flower would you choose to represent summer?
My choice is lotus.
I went to a theme park last Saturday, especially to see the lotus pond.
I was aiming to stroll in the park all day, and then watch the sunset by the lake next to the park. Eventually, I missed the sunset, but luckily, the lotus are blooming, and I enjoyed the time when I walked and played around the pond.

I hope you can feel the fresh and fragrant air in the park like I did. That is an aroma that no perfume can replicate.

I was aiming to stroll in the park all day, and then watch the sunset by the lake next to the park.
Eventually, I missed the sunset, but luckily, the lotus awere blooming, and I enjoyed the time when I walked (and played) around the pond.
"Played" sounds a little childish in English, not as common as 玩. There isn't a great substitute, so the most natural word choice would just be to omit it entirely, say only "I walked around the pond."

There aren't many lotuses in my area, but I started watching Chinese dramas, and the lotus always reminds me of some characters. So now when I do see a lotus flower, it makes me happy. :)
