The Crab Cannery Ship
I've finished reading "The Crab Cannery Ship (蟹工船)" written by Takiji Kobayashi. The story is about crab fishing in the early 1900s. The working environment was terribly bad and this story focuses on conflicts between the workforces and their commanders in a ship. This is famous for proletarian literature. Furthermore, this is base on reality. I can't believe the events in the story happened in the past.
The author was arrested as a communist and finally killed by the secret police. He is so celebrated that we Japanese learn him in history classes.
By the way, I misunderstood this title as "a crab laser" when I was a kid because both cannery ships and laser are pronounced "kousen" in Japanse.

The original sentence makes it seem like the novel is factual is in "the events happened," but since (I think) it is a fictional novel "events like those in the story happened" makes more sense.
