The Afterclass Programming Club
In my university, we've started a club for programmers. I guess it's a big word, since we are still studying, but we wanted to have a place where we could meet to talk about programming and learn how to do programs and apps. The club opened in the end of January and we've been going there until March when the quarantine started. Our first attempt was to create a simple timetable app for the university, since it hasn't got any, and the students have to check what classes they have today from just a photo in WhatsApp. It's not convenient. We started working on it immediately, but it took some time to come up with a working process. Then, we started coding and adding the ideas we had into the app. After a month and a few days, we had a simple working app, where we made timetables for almost every faculty in our university. The next step should be that we make it work using the Internet to make it synchronize every day, and add give the control of it to the administration, so that they could update the timetable and make notifications for students. That time, it was already in the middle of March, and we weren't be able to finish it up, since we got our university locked down, and we went on the home education. If everything goes well, we shall continue working on it, and I hope we going to finish it before we graduate from the university.

Sounds like an awesome app! My cousin did something similar for bus routes around the school, but using SMS because this was before smart phones were a thing! I teach programming for High School students, but I don't know how to deal with servers or websites or text messages.

Making apps before smartphones must be difficult stuff. It's nothing special now. There are many ways to create simple website and servers, that could work with messages. Thanks for your corrections!
