Should Cheap Air Travel be Encouraged?
Low-cost air travel provides more people, especially ordinary people, with chances to travel abroad. From my perspective, it is a great way to make people enjoy freedom, even though this trend has an adverse effect on the environment.
The popularity of cheap air travel encourages the public to go to more foreign countries. Through these travels, the top benefit for people should be to give them a chance to have the basic grounds in local languages, and further know about the local traditional culture, ingenious lifestyles behind languages. If people fly abroad on a regular basis thanks to cheap airlines, they will be more likely to find a place that is more suitable than their hometown. For example, some software engineers from Asia, probably move there with their families after going on a short trip from the North America where can provide them with more job opportunities and exploit their specialized potential at the same time.
On the other hand, some people argue that expensive fight tickets are able to prevent people from travelling beyond borders, which is an efficient way to protect the whole environment. If the price of an airline ticket is so high that people cannot afford it, the number of airlines will dramatically fall, so it definitely reduces greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfide and stuff like that. In addition, the loud sound of the aircraft during the operation can also be seen as a kind of pollution, that is noise pollution, which is detrimental to surrounding ecological environment.
As I see it, it is unnecessary for airline companies or the government to increase the price of air tickets, because inbound and outbound flights can bring huge economic benefits for the whole society. On the one hand, although the price of the flight ticket is relatively low, it can promote more people to buy it. The more people buy tickets, the more money airline companies have. Apart from that, when people arrive at a new place, they are curious about a wide variety of the local characteristics to a large extent, so it will arouse tourists’ compulsive shopping to buy or pay for everything, including traditional craftworks, souvenirs with ingenious elements, well-known tourist attractions and so on, which will definitely boost an economic growth in the local area in the long run.
In conclusion, costly air tickets indeed discourage people’s thoughts of going abroad, but affordable tickets can help people travel freely as well as bring other advantages.
