Saturday

It's Saturday today, but I don't go hiking as usual, because we only have one day off this weekend.

There is something called Tiaoxiu调休 in China, which means we need to return some days to the company for extra holidays. A little weird, right? I hope you don't have this type of thing. Tomorrow is a tiaoxiu for a five-day national holiday next week.

So I decided to have a relaxing day today. I have done my laundry and pruned my roses. I'm waiting for a package of accessories I bought two days ago for my new action camera. Then, I will try out my camera along the river near my apartment.

I'm going to add some subtitles to one of my hike videos this evening. It's about the view from the foot of Mount Lu to the top. You can watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r8FkUhOoQU

If you have any advice, feel free to let me know.

Have a nice weekend.

i think it's the other way around, Tammy has to work on a weekend because of holidays

Saturday

It's Saturday today, but I doidn't go hiking as usual, because we only have one day off this weekend.

There is something called Tiaoxiu调休 in China, which means we need to return some. When a holiday is close to a weekend, it is considered taking "extra" days off. Through tiaoxiu, we work on certain days tof the company for extra holidaysweekend in order to "return" these extra days off.

This is a hard thing to write about in English because the concept is unheard of. I added in a few extra lines of explanation to clarify what it is.

A little weird, right?

I hope you don't have this type of thing.

It's Saturday today, but I don''m not going hiking as I usually do, because we only have one day off this weekend.

This sentence is a little abiguous (and not 100% your fault. Without "as I usually do" it can sound like you usually don't go hiking)

There is something called Tiaoxiu调休 in China, which means we need to returncompensate some days to the company forbecause of extra holidays.

A little weird, right?

I hope you don't have this type of thing.

Tomorrow is a tiaoxiu for a five-day national holidays next week.

"Five-day national holiday" is a little redundant and a tiny bit strange since a holiday usually means one day

So I decided to have a relaxing day today.

I have donedid my laundry and pruned my roses.

Need to be consistent

I'm waiting for a package of accessories I bought two days ago for my new action camera.

Then, I wi'll try out my camera along the river near my apartment.

you used a contraction in the last sentence, best to keep consistent

I'm going to add some subtitles to one of my hikeing videos this evening.

Have a nice weekend! I studied in Taiwan and always thought it was weird that, if we had a holiday, we had to attend a Saturday class! Actually, I often missed the class because I didn't know about it at all!

Thank you!

It's really easy to miss the extra class or workday.

There is something called Tiaoxiu (调休) in China, which means we need to returnmake up for some holidays to the company for extraby working extra weekend days before and/or after the holidays.

When I used to manage a team of employees in China (I was in the US at the time, but they were in China), I found this 调休 scheme very annoying. I would always encourage them to take annual leave during the 调休 days. I remember when the Chinese government started doing this and understand the reason (to encourage people to go out and spend more money during these lengthened holidays, thereby boosting the economy), but I think they’ve taken it too far.

I'm going to add some subtitlecaptions to [one of my hike videosing videos | a video from one of my hikes] this evening.

Subtitles represent dialog or spoken words that are heard in a video. There’s very little dialog in your video, so I assume you mean captions (explanatory text that supplements or describes the video).

I enjoyed watching your video. I wish I could better discern the snatches of speech that could be heard here & there in the background—actually, I would appreciate Chinese subtitles for that. :-)) About 45 seconds into the video I think someone says “蹲下!” Then I heard what sounded like a recorded announcement telling people what to do, and not to do, at a swimming pool? Near the end it sounded like someone was talking about (or to?) a six-year-old child. :-)

Thank you for the corrections and feedback! I learned a lot from them.

Maybe it's a "蹲下" or “往下” sound about 45 seconds, and there's a recorded announcement telling people to keep safe and not to smoke or hunt in the forest.

Near the end, a child told his parents "我要坐缆车(I want to take the cable car.)". Because it was really tiring to hike from the bottom of Mount Lu to the top, the little boy was a little upset when they discussed the way back.

这个视频里说话的人有点当地口音,我也听不全。下次碰到背景里有声音的,我尽量加上中文subtitles哈。

I was actually half joking about subtitles. :-) You needn’t add them just for me, especially since the background speech/announcements aren’t the main focus of the video.

Hahaha, that's ok. It's also a good chance to practice my English expression skills.

The hiking activity is an activity taking place in the (near) future and so requires the future simple.

This is well written, with a great use of vocabulary and colloquialisms. I've suggested a few points to make the text sound more natural and easier of a read. I hope it helps!
