Birthdays really are an important day for everyone and I don't need to say more about its importance because everyone knows it. Since it's an important day for everyone, people will celebrate their birthday. In our country, parents will celebrate their children's birthdays, especially for those children who are under the age of ten. Usually, when children's birthday comes, their parents will celebrate it by eating at restaurants, buying them gifts, for example, new clothes, new toys and so on. Parents' immediate relatives will also celebrate children's birthday by doing the same things as buying gifts. When the children are over the age of ten, parents rarely celebrate, even do, they will choose a very simple and brief way. For instance, they spend less money and don't invite relatives. When people get old, usually over the age of sixty, their children will celebrate their birthday by eating at restaurants, buying them some gifts and so on. But people rarely celebrate their own birthday because it seems so weird. Some people like that other people celebrate birthdays for them, but I don't. I am a very simple person and I always prefer doing things in a brief way because I think that we should use our time doing some meaningful things. As for birthday, it doesn’t matter whether you celebrate it or not, it never makes any difference. You always get one more year old. Right?

Nice job! Here, it's quite different, actually. Usually, while you're < 15 or so, your parents will help you arrange a party where you invite all your friends. They bring gifts and there is cake and a special song. After that, some kids will have a special party for 16 (15 in Hispanic families, religious ritual and then special party at 12/13 for Jews), and then 21 (when you can drink legally), and other than that it's usually not a huge deal, and especially 17-21 there's probably a lot more drinking. When people get older, they don't want to think about how old they are, and so there's no party. You say you want to spend your time doing meaningful things, but I think spending time with friends and family is a quite meaningful way to spend your time! :)

Spending time with family and friends really is quite a meaningful thing. Because writing journals is to practice English, sometimes, I can’t express myself accurately or seriously.
