¿Cómo ha cambiado tu relación con las redes sociales con el tiempo?
En el pasado solía pasar mucho tiempo viendo TikTok o Instagram. No tuve ni idea que eso me hace efectos negativos. Me sentía muy insegura viendo la gente de aspecto irreal y a grandes rasgos fue una adicta a todos tipos de videos así. Pensaba que debería cambiar. Cuando no pude dormir, abría TikTok y estuve viéndolos unas horas. Dejé de usar TikTok hace 2 años y con toda la confianza puedo decir que fue una de mis mejores decisiones. Todas esas tendencias y lo de "brainrot" me parecen patético y no sé por qué pensaba que son tan graciosas. En las redes sociales otros nos muestran solo lo que quieren que vemos. La vida perfecta solo existe en las redes sociales como TikTok, que para mí es la más tóxica plataforma.

I know "tenía" is repeated and may not be the best wording, but it is the only thing I can think of without rephrasing the whole thing, and I think you were pretty close to be correct. Anyway, I don't think it sounds unnatural repeating that word. "Me hace" cannot be used with "efectos", with "tener" it is "to have a bad effect", and if you want to specify "on me" it would be with "en mí". You can also use "causar" as "cause" in English for the effects. Also I changed "tuve" to "tenía", more on this later 📌

"la gente" is not gramatically incorrect, but it sounds unnatural; "a gente" sounds a lot better. "a todo tipo" means "any kind of ..." and "a todo este tipo" means "any ... of this kind". I think they are two super useful sentences you could remember for this kind of sentences!

📌 It is later now: Here you should use the imperfect past tense (at least in Spanish we call it "preterito imperfecto", which is "podía" instead of "pude") because you are narrating an action that lasts in time. When you say "no pude", you make it sound like an instant, but here you are expanding on what you would do when you couldn't sleep, so it should be "no podía".
