A few days ago, I decided to read a history book just for the purpose of learning English. I thought it would be an interesting read and I might as well learn something about history, which is certainly not my strength. I started reading "The Decisive Battles of World History" by Gregory S. Aldrete. It covers decisive battles in the span ranging from the second millennium B.C. to the present.

I'm also thinking of buying a book, but I haven't yet decided which one. Besides, I can download most of them from the internet for free, so it's hard to choose. I'm not sure about the genre either. I could buy a technical book in my specialization or a totally different genre such as history or universe.

I thought it would be an interesting read and I might as well learn something about history, which is certainly not one of my streongth suits.

The way you worded it is correct, but naturally I would say it this way instead.

Very well written! I would recommend the book “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell. I found it interesting and memorable.

"in the span ranging from" is fine, but thought I would get a shorter/more concise alternative.

I'm also thinking of buying a book, but I haven't yet decided which one.

Is "universe" a genre? If so, then ignore my correction. I think you might mean outer space / future themed books, which is called "sci-fi" or "science fantasy."

It covers decisive battles in the span ranging from the second millennium B.C. to the present.

That's what I was thinking while writing it, but I left it there in the end just to see whether it's correct or not. Thanks.

I don't think it's a genre. I should have said "universe related books" or something like that. For example, the book "A Brief History of Time" by S. Hawking would fit in this category. These books are nonfiction.
