Rant!

Hi guys! I have been here for a little over 2 weeks now. People here are really lovely and helpful so let me start by saying a huge thank you to you all! x Now comes my rant against another language learning group!

A while ago I joined a Japanese learning group on Facebook. Most people there are also pretty nice and serious about learning Japanese, which is superb! But occasionally there are people asking questions that can be answered by a simple Google search, which literally takes a few seconds. I mean, of course I don't mind people asking questions as long as they have actually made an effort to find out the answers beforehand. Just now someone in that group posted something like:-

How do I say
"How are you?"
"Thank you"
"What's your name?"
in Japanese?

Think that's bad? Wait til you hear this! They said, and I quote, "I don't understand Japanese words. Answer in English words."
If they aren't even willing to actually learn the Japanese writing systems, then I'm pretty sure they're not asking this because they want to start learning Japanese! Also, the use of the phrase "English words" just annoys me so much. It shows that they have no knowledge of the Japanese language at all, or just knowledge of linguistics in general. I'm not usually that petty, nor do I say bad things to people. But this is just ridiculous IMO. And the worst thing is, they didn't even say "thank you". I HATE RUDE PEOPLE!

That's about it! Thanks for reading! Again, thank you all for being amazing, and of course the admin(s) for doing a wonderful job! :) Just want you to know how much I appreciate this community! X

(Actually for English, I'm just trying to up my speaking game. I don't have a lot of chances to actually speak English now that I've graduated from university and I have yet to start working. So most of my entries would be rather causal as I'm trying to treat it as my "script" for when I'm speaking. Therefore, you don't need to comment on my formality unless you think that it's inappropriate even in speech. Thanks guys!! Much love x)

Hi, guys!

I wouldn't add the comma.

I wouldn't add the comma.

It's technically correct to use a comma to offset the name of a person (or in this case, a group) from the rest of the sentence when that person is being sort of just called upon or mentioned like in this case. Of course, a lot of people choose not to do it in informal writing, but it's correct.

Thanks Bees! :) I really need to be careful with the punctuation! May I know why I can't use "would" in that last paragraph? Thank you :))

Since you're talking about a set plan you have for the future, writing more casually, you need to use "will". "Would" is primarily used for making hypotheticals (my entries would be rather casual if...) or for making the guess about some sort of past event (ex: "He would have gone if he had had the time).
