'Me too' is idiomatically correct, and reads as slightly more natural to me than 'I am too', which seems overly emphatic. I think it may be a process of ellipsis, which is a strong force in English - that we understand something like '[subject] affects/is present for me too'.
I don't think we would necessarily expect to 'hear' news on a phone screen... it seems the original intent is something like 'I found my phone screen full of news about war'.
Otherwise it is a well written piece, and I agree with ekksikajika's commentary :-)
