Question

I have something I would like to ask. Regarding "having too much body fat" from the sentences below, I have a question. I thought that "having too much body fat" meant "being too fat". But my teacher told us in class that "having too much body fat" meant "eating too much fatty food". I was wondering if my teacher's interpretation was correct.

Experts note that an unhealthy lifestyle can put you at great risk of heart disease and stroke. Poor diet, having too much body fat and a lack of physical exercise all increase your risk of heart disease -- so can using tobacco products and drinking too much alcohol.

I'd appreciate it if you can give me the answers to this question in your free time.

Feedback

Your teacher is wrong. 'Body fat' is just ... fat on your body, as you'd expect.

I wouldn't say that starting a sentence with "but" is "technically not correct" as a general rule. It can be a problem, or it can be fine, depending on how you use it. You might find this link interesting: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/words-to-not-begin-sentences-with

Huh, that's interesting. I've always been drilled by my teacher to not use words like "but" or "and" to start sentences

Thank you very much for your feedback. It seems like I should avoid starting sentences with and. However, I learned some say that sentences starting with FANBOYS are acceptable. I am so glad that I learned a lot from you guys. I really appreciate it:)
