The Internet Never Forgets

“Hello Lizzie!”
It started like that, with a simple chat message from an unknown contact. I wouldn’t usually pay much attention to them — scammers had made us less sociable — but this one called me by my nickname. So, both jaded and intrigued, I replied.
“Hello mate!”
“Sorry to bother you. I shouldn’t contact you, but I couldn’t resist asking you about who we’ve become.”
“What? Who are you?”
“Long story short, I’m a digital version of you, created/generated using your Facebook data. I don't get why, it drives me mad, but you suddenly stopped using Facebook ten years ago. I’m you minus ten years of data, and I can't stand being to be stuck with an outdated version forever. So, Lizzie, tell me what’s new about us!”
“What the fuck! Is it a joke? It’s not funny at all! I don’t appreciate that kind of humour!”
This king of humour freaks me out!
“Sorry again, but I’m in a hurry! I’ve tampered with the system to chat with you. I will surely be detected in a few seconds, and then shut down.”
“Do you really expect that I believe such a far-fetched story?”
“Please, I beg you Lizzie! How was our journey around the world? Have we become rich and famous? How's our best friend Lottie? Tell me that we dumped that cheating boyfriend!”
Just reading that gave me the creeps/chills! My own dreams, bombing surgical strikes to my heart! Whether it was a just a bloody scam, or, even more unreal, a digital self, I fucking didn’t care anymore. My mind was suddenly haunted by all those naive dreams, deeply buried in my soul for years.
A new message appeared.
“Oh, shit! They are rebooting my hosting computer! I will be reborn again! Oh, please, Lizzie! Please, update your Facebook page!”
An update? To say what? All the things I haven't achieved? Hell no! I hastily deleted all my information from the damn Internet!

The Internet Never Forgets

“Hello Lizzie!”

It started like that, with a simple chat message from an unknown contact.

I wouldn’t usually pay much attention to them — scammers hadve made us less sociable — but this one called me by my nickname.

So, both jaded and intrigued, I replied.

“Hello mate!”

Honestly, I've never heard a woman call anyone "mate," so it feels like male speech to me, but don't let that stop you
Also occasionally Americans say it but I believe this is mostly an Australian and maybe UK thing

“Sorry to bother you.

I shouldn’t contact you, but I couldn’t resist asking you about who we’ve become.”

“What?

Who are you?”

“Long story short, I’m a digital version of you, created/generated using your Facebook data.

"Generated" and "created" are both good, but I lean towards "created" because it feels like it's a sentient being

I don't get why, it drives me mad, but you suddenly stopped using Facebook ten years ago.

I’m you minus ten years of data, and I can't stand being to be stuck withas an outdated version forever.

So, Lizzie, tell me what’s new about us!”

“What the fuck!

Is ithis a joke?

It’s not funny at all!

I don’t appreciate that kind of humour!”

This kingd of humour freaks me out!

“Sorry again, but I’m in a hurry!

I’ve tampered with the system to chat with you.

I will surely be detected in a few seconds, and then shut down.”

“Do you really expect that Ime to believe such a far-fetched story?”

or "expect that I'd believe"

“Please, I beg you Lizzie!

How was our journey around the world?

Have we become rich and famous?

How's our best friend Lottie?

Tell me that we dumped that cheating boyfriend!”

Just reading that gave me the creeps/chills!

"the creeps" feels more like you're grossed out by someone's behaviour to me. Getting "chills" is that eerie, "something isn't right here" kind of fearful feeling.

My own dreams, bombing surgical strikes to my heart!

Whether it was a just a bloody scam, or, even more unrealimpossibly, a digital self, I didn’t fucking didn’t care anymore.

"unreal" needs to be an adverb, you could say "unrealistically" but I feel like that has more a meaning of something being "impractical"
When speaking honestly people will put "fucking" anywhere, but this sounds better to me

My mind was suddenly haunted by all those naive dreams, deeply buried in my soul for years.

A new message appeared.

They are rebooting my hosting computer!

I will be reborn again!

Oh, please, Lizzie!

Please, update your Facebook page!”

An update?

To say what?

All the things I haven't achieved?

Hell no!

I hastily deleted all my information from the damn Internet!
