“Cut it down” implies that it’s fairly large, like a bush or tree. We normally “pull” weeds (pull them up out of the soil, roots and all. “As wild grass” doesn’t really make sense. You could say, “I didn’t pull it out as one normally would a weed, because….”

“So came” isn’t wrong, but it sounds very literary. The phrase “time flies” usually describes a situation where time seems to pass very quickly—a lot of time passes but it feels very short. Like 嵗月如梭. To me, this video feels more like time is slowing down than flying. It’s very peaceful. :-)
