Public Transportation in Use

In recent years, governments have widely developed public transportation. More and more individuals find using subway, buses and other means of public transport convenient for their daily commutes. However, many people still prefer to own a car. In this essay, I will look at some reasons to use public transport and a few drawbacks that might be crucial for some people.
Let’s start by looking at some of the advantages of public transportation. The main reason to use public transport is that it is cheaper than owning a car. Generally speaking, some individuals like students and young adults can’t afford to purchase a car. Moreover, for groups of citizens such as children, teens and old people, public transportation can be their only option. For the car owners, using public transport decrease money they spend of parking fees as well as decreasing the fuel expenses. Another positive can be that citizens combine using public and private means of transport such as bicycle or scooter. For instance, in day-to-day commute to their work, people can transport their bicycles in subway, and then ride the rest of the way on bicycle.
On the other side of the argument is a negative reputation of public transport. For many years, in my country people had to travel in outdated Soviet buses. In the majority of cases, those buses were heavily overcrowded and the ride bear a great amount of discomfort. Therefore, even if now this situation has changed, people still detest to use public transportation and strive to own a car. Another disadvantage of using public transport that it has a strict route. On the other hand, people can use their cars to go to the countryside or to the destination outside of the public transportation zone.
Public transportation is an essential part of every modern city. In spite of not being approved by the absolute majority of citizens and having some limitations, developed public transportation system makes cities accessible and effective to use. I believe that in the future progress will be continued developing into more sophisticated and convenient way.
