Today I listened to a podcast about the economic potential of Vietnam and its major weight in the global geopolitics of the 21st. The podcast began reviewing some of the most important milestones in Vietnam's history to provide context, such as the Vietnam War, the resistance to foreign occupation, the birth of the nation-state, the French colonization, etc. They then move on to discuss Vietnam's economic growth in recent years due to its attractiveness for industrial relocation. This has meant that Vietnam's middle class has experienced a faster development than any other country in Southeast Asia. Consequently, China is becoming less desirable for international investment. However, the podcast concluded commenting that, despite these positive aspects, Vietnam remains a one-party communist dictatorship with high levels of north-south inequality and rampant corruption.
