A Place
1. Describe an important river/lake in your country
You should say.
Where it Is located
How big/long it is
What it looks like
And explain why it is important
I will be talking about the Mekong River. If I remember right, it starts off on the plateau of Tibetan in China and flows through four other countries before reaching Vietnam territory. Although only 8% of the river is located in Vietnam, it is still the largest river within Vietnam, with a length of around 2,700 miles, 3 times larger than the second largest, the Red River.
The Mekong comes through the southwest region of Vietnam with two major tributaries, which we call Tien River and Hau River, then joins The East Sea in nine estuaries, therefore, it is also called “Nine Dragons” river.
Because of the sediment that the river carries downstream, the water is really muddy and brown. Also, a large amount of silt is being deposited from upstream areas enriching and replenishing the entire delta, which is also called “Mekong”. This creates one of the most fertile regions in the world. More than half of Vietnam’s agricultural output comes from there. The river also provides employment for thousands of fishers and fishing farmers. The farmers breed, rear, and harvest fish, shellfish, shrimp and many other types of aquatic organisms. The output accounts for about 70% of Vietnamese aquaculture production volume. Besides, the river is immense and splits into many smaller rivers and canals across the delta, so it is easier for the locals to travel to other villages by waterway instead of road, creating conditions for the emergence and flourishing of floating markets. On top of that, each year, millions of tourists visit the delta to take a sampan ride across the Mekong river. The picturesque and charming scenes of abundant vivid green rice fields, unique floating markets and fishers peacefully catching fish in the morning are the key attractions of local tourism. So you can say life in the area revolves around water; people there rely on the river for food, accommodation and employment. Agriculture, aquaculture, trading, tourism and other types of production in the area contribute to one-third of the Vietnamese GDP. So, you can see how vital the river is to the country’s economy and diet.

‘Tibetan’ essentially means ‘Of Tibet’ so in English, we’d put the adjective first, the noun. Making it ‘Tibetan Plateau’
We would also just say ‘before reaching Vietnam’
