Paragraph Sketches, No. 1 - X-Eyed Friend
Mr. N-0B0 was standing on the chair beside my study desk again. He’d been with me since I was six. I first read about him in a toddler’s book, and after that, he appeared in my room and never left. He’s entirely made of metal. I’ve never seen a single spot of rust on his body. He wears a cone-shaped hat, and his nose is a metal cylinder – like Pinocchio’s. He’s short. As a child, I often thought about hugging him like a doll – but I never did. He has a warm smile now. He didn’t always. At first, he had no expression – just two X-shaped eyes scratched into his face. When I was eight, I decided to draw a smile on his bare face with a purple crayon. It’s still there.
