Overthinking

I'm trying to quit overthinking. The constant flow of negative thoughts is tedious, and it makes me tense and anxious. Do my thoughts really matter? I think only actions affect my life, so what is the point of overthinking? Thoughts about the past - regrets or homesickness - can't take me back. Conversely, thoughts about the future don't solve problems; these anxious thoughts do nothing to make my future self happier. I mean, I should develop a strategy, make plans, and then just stick to them. I understand that I can't trust every thought in my head because some of them are unfair. However, I don't know what to think about instead (when I'm not busy, I mean). So, I willingly accept a state of emptiness. Is this mindfulness? I've heard this word before, but I'm not quite sure what it means.

Corrections

Thoughts about the past - regrets or homesickness - can't take me back.

Strictly speaking, this is where an em dash is appropriate.

Feedback

Overall, I concur with the others; this was nicely written, and pretty eloquent too. Good luck over there!

Thank you! Good luck to you, too!😊

Feedback

Excellent writeup! Not only is everything correct, it also flows very well. I like your writing voice. This sounded especially poetic to me: "I think only actions affect my life, so what is the point of overthinking? Thoughts about the past - regrets or homesickness - can't take me back."

Best of luck with quitting overthinking. I hope that you can feel less anxious.
