I think most of you do not consider how much using stairs push your knees. You press your knuckles while climbing the stairs. Maybe going up 3 or 4 stories can be fine, bu no more than 5 stories. The kneecap is the part you kneel on. When you move up the stairs, 3 bones are involved — thigh bone, tibia and the kneecap. These bones slide over each other but there's cartilage that prevents friction. When this cartilage reduces, that's when there's pain while using the knee. Knee joint is the one that helps to move your leg to the kneeling position.
